A Customer Didn’t Like Seeing An Employee Sitting Down Behind The Counter, So He Gave Her An Earful About It

It’s really astounding how certain customers think that they have the right to talk to workers this way.

I know some folks get grumpy as they get older, but maybe they need to channel their hostility into something productive…instead of lashing out against someone working at a store…

Kind of seems like a waste of time, don’t you think?

I sure do!

Check out what happened in today’s story…we have a feeling that you’re gonna be annoyed.

Older man tried to tell me how to sit at my job.

“I would understand if I was ACTUALLY sitting like how he was describing, but let me just clarify this now.

I was sitting with my right leg crossed over the left, turned kind of at an angle so my right knee was against the desk, just barely peering over the top.

This gentleman walked in to get his service. I did not speak to him as the girl who was performing his service was there and already greeted him, checked him in, then took him right back (she recognized him as he is one of her clients).

She let them go ahead and handle this!

I should also mention that I am somewhat new, I’ve been at my job for about a month and a half at this point, so if any of my co-workers or my manager had a problem with the way I have been sitting, they would have brought it up by now.

So by this point the service has been completed and my co-worker takes him back up to my desk to rebook for a few weeks from now and then also finish off his payment.

I do all of that, mind you, when I speak with a customer, I sit up and I put my leg down as I feel it is more professional and productive than leaning back and looking like I don’t care.

Another thing to note, our store is not particularly busy. There is a lot of down time so it is pretty common that I am sitting on my phone online, doing my schoolwork, and whatnot (manager literally said that its fine, the most we have in the store at one time is like maybe 3 customers and thats on a busy day).

Excuse me…?

Anyway, once I finish his check out he says “by the way, the way you were sitting when I walked in was very unprofessional. I’m not trying to be mean, I see you are new, but just saying that you need to sit up and sit attentively.”

I am not a confrontational person, I just smiled and nodded, but a part of me wishes that I told him to mind his own because its not that deep.

Am I being dramatic?

Am I overthinking this?

My coworkers agree with me but also a part of me feels like i was being disrespectful to him for sitting but also maybe thats me being a people pleaser… please tell me I’m not being dramatic.”

Reddit users spoke up.

Some folks just don’t know how to mind their own business!

And this guy clearly needs to get a hobby…
