Computers are essential for most businesses today, and when one goes offline, it can cause some major issues.

What would you do if you ran a computer repair shop and someone called in saying that their hard drive died and they needed you to fix it right away?

That is what happened to the guy in this story, and when he told the potential customer that he could get him in after a few days, the guy freaked out and threatened to sue him if he didn’t fix it immediately.

I understand being upset about a difficult situation, but what kind of person does this? Read through the quick story below and see what you think.

I need someone to blame! Hey you random tech, give me money!

Just had a fun fun phone call from someone who’s not even a client expecting me to pay up $5k for data recovery because I wouldn’t come out and fix a death click hdd that contained “vital business data.”

Some people are so entitled.

I really don’t understand the thought process that lead to this, I’ve never dealt with them before. Ever.

And they were very aggressive over the phone, and after explaining that I don’t have any free time slots to look at it for a few days, they went completely septic claiming that I was “Destroying their business” by refusing to dump every other job to go look at it.

At least he gave them some basic diagnosis information.

After verifying over the phone that it was indeed making that “click, click, wiiir” sound that is typically a mechanically dead HDD, I explained that it was probably not something I could fix.

And, without backups, they would have to take it to a data recovery outfit and should turn it off right now to prevent further damage (and frankly given the way they were acting over the phone I wanted nothing to do with them).

What are these people thinking?

Apparently, just because I answered the phone and tried to be helpful, I should pay for the data recovery and they will be speaking to their lawyers.

I hate Mondays.

Some people act like threatening to get a lawyer will get them what they want, even when it makes no sense at all.

Let’s see what the people in the comments have to say about this story.

He should still document what happened.

A lawsuit is an empty threat.

Never take on a client like this.

Some people never learn.

This would be the perfect reply.

The last thing you want is someone like this as an actual customer. They would make every dollar they paid you the biggest hassle of your life.

On top of that, it is clear that they were not good with their technology, so it would be constant trouble.
