Work messages outside scheduled hours can add stress and anxiety to employees who simply want to relax at home.

In this story, an employee struggled with senior managers who were constantly sending messages and tagging her after work.

They continued forwarding emails, slides, and documents late at night, even though she knew that there was never an emergency.

Although she refused to respond outside working hours, she still had to deal with a pile of messages every morning.

Ugh… Sounds stressful, doesn’t it? Read the full story below to find out more.

Leadership constantly messaging outside work hours

I have a super toxic workplace at the moment.

I have really been struggling specifically with messages outside working hours.

Senior managers will be online tagging me in slides, docs, messaging, forwarding emails.

The latest was Labor Day, from 10 pm to midnight.

This employee never checked her inbox after 5 pm.

We work in customer service. Nothing is an emergency. I don’t reply or check messages even outside 9 to 5.

But this means I spend a good chunk of time every morning just unburying myself from late night messages.

It makes me very anxious to even log on.

I feel like I’m about to witness a car crash every time I open my messages.

Work hours are set for a reason. Anything outside that window shouldn’t require you to do anything work-related.

It makes sense that OP wants to keep her evenings separate from work, especially when none of the messages are urgent.

But having to start every morning digging through hours of unnecessary late-night messages can really be stressful.

Nothing says “good morning” like opening your inbox and discovering last night’s entire workload.
