Family Couldn’t Afford To Trim Their Overgrown Hedge, But Their Neighbor Kept Pressuring Them To Do Something

Neighbor disputes can start over the smallest things.

In this story, a woman was pressured by her neighbor to pay £250 to have their side of a shared hedge trimmed.

Her family was living on a tight budget after renovating their entire house and having a baby.

Although they understood the hedge needed attention, they felt the repeated requests were becoming too irritating.

Don’t you think so, too? Check out the full details below.

How to deal with irritating neighbours?

Our neighbours are a young family, a couple and their baby. We are also a young couple and a baby.

We live in semi-detached houses, but they are part of the next pair of houses, not the one attached to us, if that makes sense.

Anyway, our gardens have a shared hedge. We paid someone £60 to trim the hedge width-wise and clear up the garden.

It was just some kids who wanted some extra money.

And we thought we’d let them do it as we just wanted the garden to look somewhat tidy.

This woman and her family were in a tight budget.

Obviously, they did not have the tools to trim it height-wise, so they didn’t do it.

We had to gut the entire house and redo it, including plastering and so on.

Because it was in such a state when we bought it.

So we are literally living on such a tight budget right now.

We don’t have money to do anything more than just get through the week while we build up our savings again.

Especially as I am on maternity leave and not getting paid anything anymore.

Everything else is having to take a back seat.

Their neighbor offered to trim their hedge for £250.

Our neighbour has repeatedly kept bringing up the state of our hedge.

The hedge has been trimmed in a nice, neat shape on their side because they do it themselves.

We haven’t yet had a chance to sort our side out.

We have explained our situation to them, and they said they would do it for us if we paid them some money towards it.

I thought perhaps £100. They want us to pay £250. I don’t understand what for?

She said they would do it themselves instead.

They said to clear up the mess and for fuel for their car so they could take it to the waste centre.

We said we’d do that ourselves. Then, they said for electricity to power the tools they have.

But surely it doesn’t cost £250 to power some tools?

I’d understand if the hedge was going into their garden, but it’s not.

It’s a bit bushy and not in a perfect, groomed state, sure, but it’s not unkempt and overgrowing into their garden.

Every single time we leave the house, the neighbour’s wife runs out to ask us about it. We feel a bit bombarded.

Obviously, the hedge is not OP’s top priority right now, as they are rebuilding their savings and managing a new baby.

Since the neighbor already maintains their own side, repeatedly approaching them about the other side could understandably feel annoying.

I don’t understand why the neighbors can’t understand the financial situation they are in.

Short and simple.

And finally, another one chimes in.

That hedge certainly grew into a bigger issue than expected.
