Keeping to yourself is supposed to mean staying out of other people’s drama, not becoming the subject of it.
One man had spent his days staying in his own lane, but despite that, he started hearing his neighbors talk negatively about him at night, loud enough to carry into his own home.
What was even more upsetting was that their words were really accusations of things he insists he never did.
With no clear explanation for the sudden hostility, he’s left wondering what exactly triggered it, while trying to figure out how to handle the situation without making things worse.

Neighbors
I’m having a problem with some neighbors and I honestly don’t know what I did to them.
This tenant prides himself on staying out of people’s way.
I’m a quiet person and I usually keep to myself. I’m trying to focus on finding work, saving money, and building a better future for myself.
I don’t bother these neighbors or look for problems with them.
None of these things seem to matter to the neighbors, though.
But lately, especially at night, I’ve been hearing them saying negative things about me and accusing me of things I know I didn’t do.
Sometimes they speak loudly enough that I can hear them from inside my home.
This is way more stress than he ever asked for.
It’s really getting to me because I don’t understand why they’re doing this or what I supposedly did to them. I don’t want to start a fight or create more problems.
I just want to be left alone and be able to focus on my life.
He soon turns to Reddit for support.
Has anyone dealt with something similar with neighbors?
What would be the most sensible way to handle it without making the situation worse?
It doesn’t sound like this renter deserves this mistreatment in the slightest.
What did Reddit make of all this?
Changing someone else’s mind isn’t always possible.
I mean, what kind of people really behave this way?
Happy people don’t live their lives like this.

Being accused of things you didn’t do is frustrating enough without also having zero idea why it’s happening in the first place.
Staying quiet and avoiding conflict clearly hasn’t stopped the situation from escalating on its own. This fact suggests the problem really isn’t about him at all.
At the end of the day, protecting his own peace matters more than winning an argument with people who clearly aren’t interested in a fair fight.
