Divorce may be good for adults who decide they married the wrong person, but it can be really hard on the kids.

In this story, a teenage girl has divorced parents. She lives with her mom and has a strained relationship with her dad.

However, she wants a closer relationship with her dad. She decided to pour her heart out to him via text, but let’s just say his response was far from what she hoped for.

Now, she’s wondering if she actually did something wrong.

Keep reading for all the details.

AITAH for telling my dad how i feel?

I(F16) have an odd relationship with my Father(M41).

He isn’t the best dad. He works a lot and i never really get to see him.

I had a hard home life when i was younger.

My parents fought a lot and eventually they got a divorce.

Her relationship with her father has gotten even more strained over time.

When i was 14 I decided to live with my mother(F42) full time. I moved into her house full time and never really got to see my dad.

I have been trying to keep our father daughter relationship alive for the past 2 years by myself with no help from my father.

He rarely texts me first.

It’s gotten to the point where i am so frustrated with it I start sobbing.

This would be a big surprise.

My father has been married to my step mother(F28) for 4 years.

I didn’t even know who she was and she was moved into my house when i was away at my mothers.(First big red flag).

She had a little girl, W(F 7), a year prior with her ex husband.

W is a sweet little girl and i love her to bits but sometimes it feels like she stole my dad away from me.

She really opened up to her dad and shared her heart.

I’m getting off topic anyway. I had decided to tell my father how i felt because I was fed up with him not trying to bond or whatever with me. (My dads name is Dylan and my dad sends rlly long paragraphs to everyone all the time so we call it Dylan Writer)

Me: “Dad. I’m tired. Im tired of being the only one that tries. I try. I try so hard to be there and do stuff with you but you always end up being busy.

You are your father. You are doing what your father did to you and it’s messing me up in the long run.

I love you. I love you so much but i cant be the only one to try and reach out and try and spend time with you. I cant be the only one trying.

She even gave him a sad warning.

I want you to try so I can have you in my life. Because the sad truth is, if you don’t try, i’m going to end up leaving and when you are ready to try i’m going to be long gone and you are going to regret so much.

I love you so much. You’re my dad. And i love and miss you like crazy.

But i feel like you put me on the back burner. You can’t even make it through a whole theater production for god sakes!

I need you in my life. I need you there as my dad. I can’t keep being the only one trying to spend time with you outside of J(step mom) and W(Little sister) and B(Baby brother).

She continued pouring her heart out.

I need you to be here when i need you and you aren’t. To be honest, you never have been. You aren’t there.

I need you here. I need you to try harder. I would rather have my dad in my life and have no money then never see my dad and have all the money in the world.

You don’t listen to Josh(Uncle) when he tells you so i’m praying you’ll listen to me. I need you in my life. So be there. Stop flaking. Stop being busy. I need you in my life. So, be there.”

Her father’s response was clearly not what she was hoping for.

I had written every thought and feeling that had flooded my mind to tell my father how i felt and this is how he responded…

Father: “Dude that’s not fair. It’s wrong and just not true. If I showed this message to anyone else they would say that’s nonsense.

I am there for you. I do care and I do try very much. You have no idea what it’s like to be someone else who does have a father that didn’t care.

Now You just woke me up with an emotional text that is not true or for. It’s late. You need to get some sleep and we’ll talk in the morning.

He really brushed off her feelings.

I was going to call you in the morning anyway.

Don’t send me stuff that isn’t true in the middle of the night like it’s some kind of ultimatum letter for a neglected child. Because that’s not what our are.

It sounds like your mother put you up to this to be honest. I can feel the drama coming out of it.

Get some sleep and get your facts straight. Good night.”

She sent one more text.

Me: “Quit deflecting on my mother. A quick “I’m sorry. Maybe we can talk in the morning about this?” would have sufficed. You are pushing my problems into a box’s and ignoring them. That’s BS. If you want to talk to me you can come to my house and talk to me in person. Good night.”

And that’s where i left it.

It’s currently 3:20 a.m. while i write this and I need sleep but I feel like maybe i said something that was wrong or rude. So, AITAH?

Yikes! It sounds like her father is in denial about brushing her off.

Let’s see how Reddit responded.

This person thinks her timing was a problem.

Another person thinks texting was a problem.

This person was in a similar situation.

Another person thinks the dad really messed up.

Sure, sending an emotional rant via text late at night might not have been the best way of sharing her feelings with her dad, but his response was still completely awful. He didn’t have to read it late at night if he was asleep. He could’ve waited to respond in the morning, perhaps by calling her and talking this out.

He shouldn’t have dismissed her feelings or told her she was wrong. This is his daughter desperately reaching out for her father, and he pushed her away.

He’s definitely not father of the year.
