Woman Is Considering Skipping Her Father’s Wedding Because Her Aunt Might Be There

Weddings are supposed to be a time of celebration and togetherness.
A time to catch up with your loved ones and reconnect with folks you haven’t seen in a while.
But when there’s family drama going on, these events can turn into a total train wreck.
In today’s story, a young woman explained why she doesn’t think she’s going to be able to attend her dad’s wedding.
Take a look at what she had to say about this stressful situation.
AITA for not wanting to go to my dad’s wedding if his sister comes?
“I (23F) talked to my father yesterday about his upcoming wedding and whether my aunt would be there. I told him that if she is, I won’t be coming.
Some important context: I’m mixed race and my entire family is white.
My dad isn’t my biological father, but he was there the day I was born and raised me as his daughter. My aunt is also the person who took my mother to the party where I was conceived.
Yikes…
My aunt and I haven’t spoken in years because of her behavior and racial attitudes toward me. She became heavily involved with drugs and started destroying her relationships with our family.
At my grandfather’s funeral, she showed up high, argued with my cousin, and then spent the entire time talking badly about me. I eventually told her to “shut the hell up” and walked away.
A few weeks later, I posted old family pictures and she commented things like “someone looks out of place” and “look who stands out.”
What a creep…
She became openly racial in the comments. I took screenshots and sent them to my dad, who told me to block her and said he’d handle it.
About two years later, she messaged me out of nowhere and said absolutely horrible things, including calling me a mutt, saying I could “cry to my dad in Africa,” saying my dad never wanted me, and making disgusting comments about my weight while I was 4 months postpartum.
She also attacked my parenting and said I was going to harm my son. My dad again told me to block her and said he’d talk to her. She eventually sent an apology, apparently after my dad confronted her. I never responded. Months later, she sent me even worse messages.
Wow…she’s even worse than we thought.
She became extremely racial, called my child ugly, said she hoped my child died, said she hoped someone killed me, said she couldn’t stand me and always had, and said she would never tell me who my biological father is because she wants to see me suffer.
I sent everything to my dad again, and he told me to block her.
I haven’t heard from her since. Now my dad’s wedding is coming up. I asked if she would be there. He said no, but that he wishes she could come and just doesn’t want her to cause a scene. He then called and asked who had said something to me.
I told him nobody had I was just asking because I would not attend if she were there. He sounded upset but repeated that she wouldn’t be there.
She’s not about to deal with this nonsense.
Would I be a jerk if I didn’t go if she ends up attending?
I refuse to be around her or bring my child around someone who has said these things about us. I’m honestly confused about why my dad would even want a relationship with someone who has treated his daughter and grandchild this way.
I know I wouldn’t continue speaking to someone who threatened my child, regardless of who they were. Is it selfish of me to refuse to attend if she’s there?
AITA?”

I’d do the same thing if I were her!
This is totally unacceptable!
Some people, I tell ya…
You can’t blame her for not wanting to go to this wedding…
