I (24F) love having long finger nails and put a lot of effort into maintaining them.

Since high school, I started a habit:

Whenever a nail broke, I would clip it, wrap it in masking tape with the date and finger details, and put it in a bag.

Over the years, the bag filled up. My family didn’t know because they are very uptight.

So I kept it hidden at the back of my cabinet behind clothes and sheets.

This woman panicked and searched for her bag of nail clippings.

Recently, I’ve been struggling with my mental health due to work, so my room was a bit disorganized.

Just makeup on my table and a few small rolling cabinets out of place.

My parents came to visit my house for a vacation. The next day, I left early for work.

When I returned, I found my room had been deeply cleaned. My table was rearranged, and my drawers and cabinets were completely organized.

Suddenly it clicked, and I checked the back of my cabinet. The bag was gone.

I panicked and started ransacking the room, desperately hoping to find it.

Her mother berated her for messing up the room again and for crying over “trash.”

While I was looking, my mom walked in and berated me for messing up the room she just cleaned, accusing me of not being able to clean up after myself.

I asked if she saw a black bag. She said she thought it was trash and threw it away. It was trash day, so I ran outside.

But the garbage truck had already come.I couldn’t hold back my tears and started bawling to the point of hyperventilating.

My mom got angry, demanding to know why I was crying over literal trash.

Out of frustration, I lashed out and asked why she would throw away something so precious to me

She got really upset that she couldn’t eat and go to work.

When she realized what was in the bag, she got even madder.

She called me disgusting and creepy for keeping them, and my dad backed her up.

The next day was incredibly tense. I had no energy to eat or go to work.

That night, my mom got mad again, telling me I was overreacting and saying more hurtful things I can’t fully recall because I was so exhausted.

They left the following day.

Her family continued calling her out and sending her angry texts.

A few hours later, I started getting angry texts from them and the rest of my extended family.

They were calling me disrespectful and “not lady-like” for my reaction.

I know collecting them is unusual, but they were mine.

Just because it looks useless to them doesn’t mean they can just throw it away like that. It’s understandable for OP to react that way. I honestly think her point is valid. It’s her personal belonging, and they don’t have the right to decide what to do with it. Her family sounds pretty disrespectful of her boundaries.
