Her Future In-Laws Won’t Let Her Into Their Home—But Her Fiancé Still Wants Their Future Kids to Stay There Without Her

It’s hard to feel comfortable sending your child somewhere you’ve never even been allowed to enter.

One woman is dealing with that after she and her fiancé started talking about having kids after their wedding.

In more than three years together, she has never been inside his parents’ house and always has to wait outside.

Now, her fiancé says his parents would love to babysit their future child at that same home.

But that’s where she draws the line, because she doesn’t think her kids should go somewhere she isn’t welcome.

Read on to see exactly what’s going on.

AITA for not wanting my kids going to my future in-laws if I’m not allowed in?

My fiancé (25M) and I (24F) are getting married in September. We have been together for around 3 1/2 years now and have lived together for 2.

In this time, I have never been inside his parents’ house. Every get-together/family dinner is held at our house, even if they make the dinner.

For a bit more explanation, I have noticed that the front of their house tends to have their old things in front of the garage and around the front yard. If we stop by, I have to wait outside or in the car while he grabs something or talks to them.

Now that they’re thinking about kids, the whole thing upsets her.

We’ve recently had the baby talk and plan to try a year or so after the wedding.

My fiancé has brought up that his parents would love to watch the baby and that they have his playpen from when he was a baby for when they watch ours. I feel as though if I’m not allowed to go into the house, I don’t want my kids there, even if they’re with him. I don’t feel like it’s fair to me.

When I’ve asked him previously why I can’t go in, he just says that’s how his parents are and that no one’s ever been invited over. I don’t know what to think. I have never heard of a situation like this before.

She has so many questions about what it could be.

Are they hoarders? Are they embarrassed by the mess? My mind runs wild with all the possibilities.

I really don’t mind a little mess. I get it, life happens. I would like to think I have a pretty good relationship with his parents, especially his mom. I don’t know how to bring it up to him or even start a conversation about it.

When talking to my parents and friends about the situation, they all agree that it’s not fair to me to not be allowed in, but our kids can. I am going to be his wife, and they still won’t let me in…

AITA?

Wow! That does sound like a pretty odd situation.

Let’s see what the readers over at Reddit think is going on.

She’s absolutely right to question this.

If they expect to babysit her future child in that house, then she deserves to know what kind of environment she’s sending them into.

And there may be a perfectly innocent reason they never let anyone inside, but after more than three years, it’s strange that nobody will even explain it.

Either way, the bottom line is that before they have kids, issues like this need to be figured out.
