Losing a beloved pet can be incredibly stressful.
The following story involves a woman whose cat had gone missing after she left her door open.
She suspected her friend had stolen her cat after noticing several signs and suspicions.
With no solid proof in hand, she confronted her friend and accused her of keeping her cat.
Uh oh! Looks like tension is brewing. Read the full story below for all the details.
AITAH for accusing my ex best friend of stealing my cat
My cat got out of my apartment in a freak accident about a month ago.
I had my door open with the screen door pulled shut.
And a stray cat ran into the screen door from the outside, knocking the door completely off the hinges and onto my cat.
In a panic, my cat ran out of my apartment.
This woman had searched for her cat but couldn’t find it.
We have searched for him every night, put up fliers, and even set up humane traps and cameras with no luck.
The very summarized version of why me and my ex-best friend are no longer friends is that I kept catching her in lies.
And I eventually caught her talking crap about me. Here’s the crappy part about all this.
Three months before ending our friendship, she moved into my apartment complex right across from me.
Now, I know it sounds crazy to just assume she has my cat.
She has several reasons to believe that her friend has her cat.
But here’s some things that have swayed my opinion in the month my cat has been missing.
My cat already knows her and would be comfortable going up to her.
She had been wanting a cat and trying to get our mutual friend to give her his cat.
And the 3rd reason that caused me to confront her is she posted an IG story that she just got a new cat that looks exactly like MY cat.
She went to her friend’s apartment, but she wasn’t allowed to go in.
I probably should have just staked out her apartment.
But I’m faced with the possibility that someone who I’ve seen do crazier things than steal cats may actually have stolen my cat.
So instead of doing that, I went to her apartment to see if my cat was there.
She wouldn’t even open the door for me and told me through the Ring camera that she didn’t have my cat.
And that I was acting crazy.
Her mom thinks she’s overreacting.
I ended up just leaving, but I set up my cameras on my patio to record her windows in case I am able to catch a glimpse of her new cat (which is possibly my cat).
My mom says I am overreacting and don’t have enough proof.
But I feel like she would be the type to steal my cat knowing how much he means to me.
It’s too coincidental that she gets a cat that looks exactly like my missing one a month after he went missing.
AITA?
Hmmm… this is definitely suspicious!

But the Instagram post alone does not prove that her friend took the cat.
I understand why OP is worried, but accusing someone without solid proof can make the situation worse.
The safest approach would be to continue looking for her cat and gather more evidence before confronting her friend.
