In this stunning black and white capture by Jack Delano, we see two officers standing in the waiting room of Chicago’s Union Station. The photo was taken in January of 1943.

The way the sun’s rays pierce the room and spotlights the two officers makes for a truly wonderful photo. Jack Delano (August 1, 1914 – August 12, 1997) was an American photographer for the Farm Security Administration (FSA). The photograph is available through the Library of Congress.

Union Station first opened in 1925 and is currently the only intercity rail terminal in Chicago. It is the city’s primary terminal for commuter trains and is located on the west side of the Chicago River between West Adams Street and West Jackson Boulevard.
