Wearing something unusual is apparently all it takes for people to think you work there.
So, what would you do if you brought your pet to a festival, started chatting with people, and suddenly one woman decided you were an official attraction who owed her time?
Would you play along?
Or would you shut it down fast?
In the following story, one woman’s Renaissance Faire visit turns awkward when someone mistakes her for staff.
Here’s what happened.
Renaissance Faire and Pets
Every year, we visit a little semi-local Renaissance festival.
Not one of the huge ones like King Richard’s or anything, but they allow for pets to come!
You can bring most pets, so I called prior to going to be sure I could bring the one I had in mind.
Just a 5$ fee, and my five-foot-long boa constrictor was in!
We dressed for the occasion, not with a severe amount of effort.
I wore a dress and a corset that I saw on probably three other people, as it was the first option on Amazon.
But the pet was unique!
But nonetheless, people thought I worked there as an attraction because of my snake.
Not that I minded to begin with!
People stopped me and asked questions, and I knew they would.
I was happy to answer, happy to let people see her, and one or two little kids asked to hold her for pictures!
She didn’t lie about working there.
And I knew that prior to bringing her, she was not only a beautiful addition to my costume, but I really do enjoy letting people interact with large reptiles, it destigmatizes them for some people!
The issue was one woman who gave me a hard time when I stepped away from a small group of people so that I could take photos with my friends.
I explained to everyone that I didn’t work there, was going to take photos with my friends since some were leaving, and that I’d still be around if anyone caught me while I was walking.
Everything was great until one woman couldn’t control her attitude.
This woman gave me a sneer and said, “We’ve been waiting in line, you know.”
And I promptly told her, “I don’t work here. I did not ask anyone to line up.”
And no one was truly in line, just a group hanging out, talking to me.
But now, ma’am, you’re certainly not coming anywhere near me. Blew that chance for your kids.
Wow! That really stinks for her kids.
Let’s see how the fine folks over at Reddit relate to this situation.
It sure seems that way.
This person met up with other reptile lovers.
This would’ve been nice for her to know.
Here’s an interesting way to look at it.
It sounds like she had a great time.
