When you work at a hotel, you will regularly run into people who are kind of quirky (to put it kindly).

What would you do if a guest entered the hotel, but when the bellboy asked if she needed any assistance, she got very upset and sent him away? Later, when she needed assistance and was offered the bellboy to help, she accused him of getting into her personal space and being aggressive, even though nothing could be further from the truth.

That is what happened to the hotel worker in this story, so he just warned the bellboy to keep his distance and tried to put up with the crazy guest as well as possible.

It is hard to imagine what this lady’s problem was with the bellboy, but the staff handled it well. Read through the full story to see what you think about it.

Crazy Lady

The bellboy I have on all my shifts with is a very kind, cheerful man in his mid-40s. We’re going to call him Greg.

Clearly this lady needs some assistance.

Around 9 PM, a lady in a leg cast and crutches approaches slow and steady, but she’s too far away for me to be able to greet her yet.

Greg sees this and goes over to her to ask if she has a reservation and if she needs help with her luggage or anything. She sheepishly declines and continues to slowly hop over to the front desk.

She is very suspicious.

I greet her, and we begin the standard procedure; Greg stands to the side of the desk in case he’s needed.

We’re going to refer to the lady as Crazy. Crazy asks me, “Why is he still here? Is he the manager or something?”, to which I explain that he is just our bellboy. She gives me an “uh-huh” and the rest goes as follows:

He wants to get her checked in.

Me: Anyway, welcome! Yes, I see the reservation right here. Have you stayed with us before by any chance?

Crazy: Yes, a while ago.

Me: Great, if you tell me your UCN (unified civil number), I can look up your details in the system and-

This guest is going to be trouble.

Crazy: No way, why would I tell you something like this?

Me: Well, in that case, I’m going to need to scan your ID, ma’am. (Which is, in fact, going to show me her UCN, soooo idk what that was about.)

I scan it and give it back. She takes it in her hand and places it down on the counter next to her handbag.

He just wants to finish checking her in and be done with it.

Me: Alright, and would you like to pay cash or card today?

Crazy: Card.

Crazy starts digging through her bag like crazy, huffing and puffing. She takes several things out of it, one of which is her cardholder.

Well, anyone can misplace things from time to time.

Me: Is everything alright?

Crazy: I JUST CAN’T SEEM TO FIND MY ID ANYWHERE!!!

Me, gently pointing to her ID on top of the counter: Over here.

Crazy: Oh.

This is a very reasonable question.

Payment is processed. Hooray!! At this point, I notice that a young man is parked in front, apparently the one who drove Crazy here, and after a phone call from her, he starts carrying her luggage into the lobby.

Me: Will the gentleman be staying with you?

Crazy: No, why would you think that?

Why is she so defensive.

Me: Oh, okay, so I’m assuming the car is not going to be parked here during your stay?

Crazy: Of course not! Why in the world are you asking me so many questions???

That’s just me – Curious George. Not like this is a hotel or anything. She makes her way up to the fourth floor, and then I get a call.

I’m surprised she is allowed to smoke on the balcony.

Crazy: Hi, sorry the blinds in my room don’t seem to be working properly. Is there anywhere else I can smoke apart from the balcony?

Me: So sorry to hear that. The balcony is the only place to smoke at. Would you like me to send Greg upstairs to check up on-

What is she talking about.

Crazy: No, no, no, I don’t want that man anywhere near me. He was incredibly aggressive in invading my personal space earlier; that’s just no way to treat a customer. I don’t want to see him.

Me: Oh… I apologize for making you uncomfortable. I suppose we can send the technician upstairs tomorrow then?

He has to tell him, even just to keep him safe.

Crazy: That would be great. And don’t tell Greg about what I said. He’ll be offended.

Of course, I absolutely told Greg, and we had a grand laugh about it. I’ll update if anything else happens!

You get all kinds of weird people when working at a hotel. At least this one seemed harmless for the most part.

Let’s see what the people in the comments have to say about it.

At the end of the day, she is just a crazy guest.

There is no need to argue with crazy. Just keep the guest happy and move on.

You never know what someone is going through that makes them act weird, and when at work, there is no need to ask.
