He Gave Up Two Years Of Holidays And Weekends For This Job. Then They Fired Him Without Warning.

Getting fired should come with some kind of explanation that actually makes sense, but very rarely does it.
One employee spent two years giving everything to a job, holidays, weekends, countless 10+ hour days, without a single write-up or warning to his name. No theft, harassment, or real red flags of any kind.
Then came the vague reasoning behind his sudden termination: not being “on board with the changes happening at the company.”
Weeks later, he still can’t figure out what that actually meant, especially for someone doing grunt work far removed from any real decision-making.

I used to think my job was different and that they actually cared about me. Then I got fired with no warning.
I wasn’t stealing. I wasn’t harassing anyone. I didn’t have any write ups. I never got any warnings.
The reason I got was “I wasn’t on board with the changes happening at the company.”
The employee still has trouble decoding what this all means.
I’m not sure what that means, even after trying to digest it for several weeks. There wasn’t anything significant changing that a grunt in the back needed to care about.
By his account, he’s worked very hard to earn his place.
I worked my behind off for this place for two years, gave them holidays, weekends, and so many 10+ hour days, and I was basically thrown out with the trash.
My boss was a socially progressive millennial who started out saying she wanted to be a good boss who cares about her employees.
I live in the U.S., of course, in an at-will state. So this is legal. But it’s not right.
This employee is right to be confused by all of this.
What did Reddit have to say?
Betrayal from an employer is tough to swallow.

Employers really need to stop saying “it’s not personal,” because it is.

Many people dealing with layoffs come out the other side much more jaded.

This commenter went through a very similar situation.

Two years of holidays, weekends, and 10-hour days should count for something. Getting handed a vague, unexplained reason for termination in return makes the whole sacrifice feel completely one-sided.
“Not on board with the changes” isn’t a real explanation. It’s the kind of phrase that sounds official enough to avoid a real conversation while saying absolutely nothing at all.
This story just encapsulates everything that’s wrong with working in this day and age.
