It’s frustrating when people leave a mess in public and expect someone else to clean it up.

One resident is dealing with that after yet another weekend of garage sale signs being left around the neighborhood.

People seem to put plenty of effort into making the signs and pointing shoppers toward their homes.

But once the sale is over, some of them apparently forget those signs are still sitting all over town.

Now, the resident is tempted to collect the latest batch and return them to the address printed right on them.

I know there are worse problems in the world, but there are people all over our town that love to have garage sales.

Many of them seem to put a lot of effort into their signs.

Which is great, but they put zero effort into collecting them when the weekend sale is over.

No matter how hard she tries, she just cannot wrap her mind around it.

The latest from this past weeks had mini arrow signs that they stake into the ground.

Why on earth do people insist on just leaving these posted, and staked on our street!?

It’s like, you don’t live on this particular street so you don’t care. I just think it’s so lazy, I am tempted to remove their signs and deliver them to their address, which is printed on the signs.

Too funny. That is pretty annoying!

That makes perfect sense.

Here’s a valid point.

According to this reader, people get fined for that very thing where they live.

Well, throwing them on lawns probably isn’t a good idea, but the city council is.

Two wrongs never make a right.

Garage sale signs are usually regulated by local sign ordinances, and many cities require them to be removed shortly after the sale ends. In fact, some places prohibit them in public rights-of-way altogether.

So, rather than collecting the signs and returning them himself, he could report them to code enforcement or public works and let the city handle it.

That way, he gets the mess cleaned up without creating a whole new problem for himself.
