He Tried to Get His Homeless Father a Room for the Night. The Hotel Turned Him Away, Citing a History of Lying About Payment

Imagine checking your father into a hotel for the night, and then you get a call from your dad saying he had been kicked out of the hotel. What would you do?
In this story, one person was in this exact situation, so he went to the hotel to find out what happened. While his dad didn’t do anything crazy on that particular night, he learned about three different instances where his dad was at this same hotel, and let’s just say it didn’t end well.

I learned why my father got DNR’d to his favorite hotel
backgound: My father is a retired member of the armed forces and has been victim of romance scams for the better part of a decade.
He is currently homeless because of this.
I’m currently working to found out if he has some kind of mental illness.
This sounds like a nice thing to do.
Story: This past weekend, my uncle – his brother, reached out and asked if I would put my father up in a hotel for a couple of days. Specifically, his favorite hotel, the one that offers complimentary breakfast and dinner.
I pick my father up and inform him of what his brother is doing. I take him there, get him checked in and discuss plans for when the reservation ends.
I then go home thinking the rest of the weekend is going to be quiet.
Uh-oh!
One hour later my father is calling me saying that he’s been kicked out.
Now ticked off, I make the 20-30 minute drive back to the hotel and go directly inside to find out what is going on and how much am I going to get back from the reservation.
Speaking to one of the AGMs, found out that he had sweet talked his way into a room on three different occasions with now payment.
Here’s what happened the first time.
The first time he tagged along with a group of veterans, got a room and explained to the front desk that his pay won’t hit his bank account until Monday and can pay then.
Morning comes and father tells AGM he’s working with the bank to figure out why pay hasn’t come.
AGM then sees the group of veterans and asks them about my father and what his story is. That’s when AGM learns the veterans don’t know him.
Afternoon comes and AGM sees him again on the phone and seems to be agitated. The AGM asks him if everything is ok and my father asks the AGM if he can borrow some money.
The second time, he had a completely different story.
The second incident my father tells the FDA a sob story about his wife being stuck in Chicago and she has his wallet that has his identification and credit card, but her flight gets in a midnight, and they can pay for the room then.
FDA sets him up with a room.
In the morning FDA and the AGM go up to the room for payment and father has dipped out.
Three strikes and you’re out, even in the hotel industry apparently.
Third incident was another sob story, but the AGM was working the front desk and shut things down.
My father then leaves and sets up shop in a grassy area next to the parking lot. Full on pulls out blanket, pillow, and other essentials for a good night’s sleep.
The AGM finally had enough and called the police to trespass him.
Fortunately, the AGM reimbursed me the entire amount, and I was able to set him up somewhere else.

Does his dad have a mental illness, or is he just a con artist? Either way, he’s not helping himself out. He needs to stop lying if he doesn’t want to get kicked out. Apparently, he’s never going to stay at the hotel he used to consider his favorite hotel ever again. I’m pretty sure he’s banned for life.
It can be hard to help someone who causes trouble.
