Her Roommate Suddenly Says He Can’t Live With Her Anymore—Because His New Girlfriend Wants Him to Move Out

Well, this sure is a weird one…
But you never really know what to expect from people these days, do you?
Especially when they start dating someone new: all bets are off after that!
The woman who wrote this story got some surprising news from her male roommate and she’s not sure how to deal with the situation.
Let’s take a look at what she had to say.
AITA if I refuse to move out because my roommate’s new girlfriend is uncomfortable with me, even if we’ve never even met?
“After being randomly paired together, I (30F) have been living with a slightly younger man (26M) for the last year with relatively no major issues.
Men and women can be friends, ya know!
I’ve become fairly good friends with my roommate (watch TV/movies occasionally, dinner or lunch once every few months, regular chit chat in passing when we are in the same space) and while we’re both straight, we seem to have completely opposite taste in partners and have never once expressed even the slightest bit of romantic interest in each other (or nothing that I’ve perceived as such anyways).
A few months ago, my roommate started joining the dating apps and stuff, and recently, he’s found a girlfriend – around the third date, he apparently told her that he had a female roommate and from the way he explained it, she was definitely weirded out.
In that same conversation of when he told me that, he also indicated that he really hoped we would get along and hit it off, so I had mentioned that we should plan dinner once they’ve been together longer.
Where was this coming from…?
Jumping forward several weeks to yesterday, my roommate makes plans with me to arrange a dinner with his new girlfriend at our place and then today, my roommate brings up, completely out of the blue, moving out once his lease term ends.
At first, he says it’s due to wanting a parking spot, which is an older point of contention that I thought we had resolved.
I took the smaller bedroom in exchange for the parking spot and pay slightly less in rent, but my roommate has asked if he could have the parking spot a couple of times in the past – he found a hidden alcove with plenty of street parking, so he hasn’t brought up the parking spot in several months.
Oh, boy…
Immediately following the parking thing, he adds “and my girlfriend is a bit uncomfortable” and the moment he said it, I knew that it was most likely the girlfriend causing the issue.
He then followed with mentioning that if I moved out he would stay, but if I was staying, that he was going to move out.
It was a pretty civil conversation, but I was too caught off guard in the moment to really say anything, but now that I’ve had time to process, I feel like I’m at a crossroads.
I lived in the apartment first signing my lease by a few weeks, so that was how I was able to secure the parking spot
Other than the parking spot, we’ve had virtually no disputes or issues communicating.”
