Workplace standards should apply fairly to everyone.
In this story, an employee worked under a boss who constantly demanded punctuality and high productivity from his staff.
Despite preaching hard work, the boss often procrastinated himself and protected coworkers who regularly broke workplace rules.
Meanwhile, employees like him who worked hard and finished tasks early were frequently blamed and disciplined for supposedly slacking off.
Yikes! It honestly sounds like there’s something wrong in this workplace. Check out the full details below.
Did your narc boss hate you for being good at your job?
Something really messed up I noticed recently in my old workplace was the culture.
Narcissistic boss was someone who was always nagging everyone.
About being punctual, doing things by the book, and smashing past our daily averages.
Oh, he also discouraged lunch breaks and bragged he never used them or needed them because he was such a hard worker.
This employee describes their narcissistic boss.
Lies. He could spend 30 minutes just getting his lunch.
But behind closed doors, he was lazy as hell. Always putting things off.
Shooting down ideas that would make things more efficient and faster.
Complaining nobody keeps him in the loop while refusing to read emails.
Then, blaming everyone but himself when he took too long.
It was, perversely, the other lazy people at work that he would protect and defend.
A bad coworker who would take long lunch breaks would always be given more work.
There was one really bad coworker who would take very long lunch breaks.
He would meander in and out of his office and even break the strict smoking policy.
Had work literally piled in his office that he hadn’t got to working on.
All in front of narc boss, no less.
The boss would come down on those who work hard.
We had a toxic manager who was a procrastinator, too.
Narc boss’s superiors gave him an entire year to address it.
He only fired her after they threatened to fire him, too, if he didn’t go through with it.
If you worked hard, he was more likely to come down on you and punish you.
And accuse you of doing a bad job.
He and some of his coworkers would always get blamed.
I was the one constantly being written up for supposedly slacking off.
Often during the same weeks, I had finished important deadlines early.
He was always punishing my other coworkers, too, who also worked hard and thought ahead.
He’d never blame the procrastinators for slowing us down if it happened. He’d blame us.
Oh no! That kind of double standard would be incredibly frustrating to deal with.
A manager who demands perfection while excusing poor behavior from favored employees can quickly destroy morale.
OP is justified in feeling upset about punishing people who consistently meet deadlines while protecting procrastinators.
Ugh! What an unfair work environment. Let’s see how others reacted to this story.

Finally, short and true.
Nothing kills morale faster than watching lazy coworkers get away with everything.
