His Landlord Threatened to Evict Him—So He Stopped Providing Everything His Roommates Relied On

Shared living arrangements require everyone to contribute fairly to the household.

In this story, a man was threatened by his landlord with eviction, so he decided to remove his kitchen supplies.

He had been providing garbage bags, paper towels, kitchen supplies, and even maintaining the shared space.

But after the conflict with his landlord, he no longer felt comfortable continuing to provide for everyone.

Do you think his reaction was justified? Check out the full details below.

AITAH for moving ALL my stuff out of the kitchen into my room amd not sharing?

All the legal stuff is being handled by a lawyer. I don’t need legal advice.

And it probably won’t apply to where I live anyways. I also can’t afford to move.

I’m renting a room in a 4-bedroom basement “apartment.”

It’s rented by the room, so any other room is on a separate lease, and the shared spaces are just shared.

This man filed multiple complaints against his landlord.

Our landlord was living upstairs but had to move out of the country for a year for work.

He is now back and staying in one of the rooms that was empty before, eventually moving to a bigger city.

I have filed a landlord-tenant board complaint against him for multiple safety and maintenance problems.

The other day, he talked to me and said if I go through with it, he will file for eviction.

I’m not worried because it’s not going to be possible for him to evict me, and I’ve informed my lawyer.

So it will be brought up at the hearing in July.

He’s planning to move all his stuff from the kitchen to his room.

But I’m no longer comfortable using the shared space other than cooking and doing dishes.

The thing is, I bought a bigger garbage can for the kitchen, and I was buying the paper towels and garbage bags.

If I take all this into my room and put back the garbage can he put in originally for 4 people, it’s like a 4L garbage can that can’t fit much.

Generally, I’ve been handling the general maintenance of the kitchen.

And that will stop if I move everything into my room.

He had one roommate whom he liked, so he felt bad for her.

They also sometimes use my pots and stuff because I’m the only one that really has any.

But also, several of my forks have gone missing since the landlord moved in.

But that genuinely might be the other roommate. Joke’s on them, those were cat food forks.

I do like the one roommate, though, and I feel kind of bad that this is screwing her over.

But I also know she can afford to buy her own stuff like paper towels and garbage bags because she DoorDashes food multiple times a week.

He’s wondering if he would be the bad guy for doing all this.

But also, we needed such a big garbage can because she only recycles boxes.

So she’s putting about 3 times the amount of garbage in there compared to me.

My food in the fridge would stay there, and I’m on the fence about moving my dry food.

My Keurig would be moved onto my desk.

I also plan on keeping my dish sponge and dish soap in my room because the landlord has been using mine.

I’m already in the process of rearranging my room for this, but am I the jerk for doing it?

Technically, even if they are in the shared space, they are OP’s belongings, so it seems reasonable for him to get them back.

Given how the landlord threatened him over his complaint, it’s understandable for him to stop doing any favors.

Sometimes, setting boundaries is the only way to send your message across. Do you agree?

If they are also using the kitchen, then they can bring their own supplies.
