You want to know what really brings out the worst in some couples?

Doing a home remodeling project together!

People get upset, lines are crossed, things get ugly…it can be a disaster!

Just ask this guy!

He’s at odds with his girlfriend about his remodeling skills and he’s finally had enough!

Let’s take a look at what’s going on here.

She got bids from contractors to fire me, so I fired myself.

“I’m smack in the middle of a one-man bathroom remodel including plumbing, electrical, framing, waterproofing, etc.

I’m busting my hump with zero help and she refuses to do anything but argue. Argue about the right way to do the electric. Argue about how to do the plumbing.

Argue about how to frame even after I was half done and she changed scope by adding a full shower bench and a new glass panel instead of wall size.

Yikes…

You’re only hearing my half but this entire bathroom remodel has been one big fight.

Unbeknownst to me she’s been complaining to her friends that I’m doing everything wrong. The other day I saw three dudes pull up in a ratty van and come inside.

Caught it on the Ring cam. Asked her about it and she basically said since I’m doing it wrong and too slow, she’s getting contractors.

Ok, fine. It’s been a labor of love but this isn’t working. I’m not good enough so let’s get some pros in to do it quick.

I gave her some advice on maybe using a reputable company and then starting packing up my tools and gear.

This relationship sounds pretty complicated…

She gets the quotes back and they’re way high. Roughly $20k to do this bathroom and we had only budgeted $3k because I was doing the work.

So it was basically materials. Since the cost is so high we can’t afford it without an equity line or credit. She doesn’t want to pay it either. She says it’s too high.

So, she now wants me to finish it. Problem is I don’t want to do it. If I wasn’t good enough before why am I good enough now?

He’s done!

So when she re-hired me, I fired myself.

I told her let’s just start saving and she doesn’t like that answer one bit.

It has turned into a huge fight and we haven’t spoken in almost two weeks.

I think I may be a jerk and that I need to just go back and do it. I just want to hear it from others I guess.”

He needs to give her an ultimatum.

Let him do his work…or hire someone else.

One thing’s for sure: she needs to back off!

This is why it’s not always a good idea to do home improvement projects with your partner…
