“It’s Not a Commune, It’s a Slum”: Neighbors Expose House Renting Out Unsanitary Sheds as “Intentional Living”

Imagine moving into a house in what you think is a nice neighborhood, but then you realize you have awful neighbors. They describe their house as a commune, but you realize they’re actually renting out a shed with unsanitary living conditions.
Would you mind your own business, or would you report them to the city?
In this story, we hear from a person who is dealing with this exact scenario. He doesn’t want to be a bad neighbor, but he also doesn’t want to live next to bad neighbors.
Is calling the city the right thing to do?

AITA for calling the city on my neighbors?
I live next to a self proclaimed commune, when in reality it’s a couple who rents out every room in their house; including their shed.
The city permits accessory dwellings, which the neighbors already have a permitted addition to the house.
However their converted shed into tiny home is almost certainly not permitted.
It gets worse.
In addition to the “tiny home” with no plumbing, they have a shack as a solution. Supposedly nobody has used the bucket toilet outhouse in “months”, but I see barrels of what I presume to be human waste stored nearby.
They also appear to collect cars & line the street with them.
Didn’t realize who I had for neighbors when I bought the place months ago.
Don’t want to be that NIMBY jerk calling the city & filing a complaint that could cost them, create animosity with my neighbors, but I also don’t want looking at this stuff.
Definitely report the neighbors! These living conditions sound awful.

An anonymous complaint would be the way to go if possible.
If the neighbors are breaking the rules, which it sounds like they probably are, he should definitely report it. It sounds like the living situation next door is pretty bad.
