A Neighbor Quarrel Turned Into a Revenge Plot—And Security Cameras Captured the Evidence Police Needed

Imagine meeting your neighbor for the first time, and it doesn’t go well. In fact, you quickly realize that your neighbor has become your enemy and seems out to get you. What would you do?
In this story, two roommates were in this situation, and they started by trying to apologize and start over.
When that didn’t work, they called the police.
When that didn’t work, they took the police officer’s advice to gather evidence, and that finally led the ultimate revenge.

Back when I was in my early 20’s I was rooming with my friend who’s uncle was allowing us to live in his vacation home that he rarely used anymore.
I didn’t have to pay rent but had to buy things like toilet paper and paper towels and the like which was nice.
About 4 months pass of living at the house when the house for sale about a block over got sold and the new owners moved in.
They didn’t hit it off with the new neighbors.
While I never knew the owners personally I heard they were in there in there early 30s and the male in the relationship was an abusive jerk.
He regularly drove a giant chevy truck with some of the biggest tires I’ve seen. I don’t know the exact price but the seemed like they were about a few hundred a piece(maybe $250 per?)
Now I can’t remember what exactly happened but I know about a week after those people moved in my friend (who we’ll call MF) complained to the new neighbor (who will call AD) about something rather small, this enraged AD and he started yelling at MF and things soon got pretty heated and they left things off basically saying FU to each other.
This seems suspicious.
A few days after this one morning while retrieving the empty garbage bins I noticed two rather large ruts in our front yard, I thought nothing of it other than some drunken idiot went off the road, probably taking the turn to early, after all we were on the corner of the street.
I told MF and we got some shovels patted down the soil flat and put some grass seed over it, we thought that was that.
But wouldn’t you know it, it happened again about a week later.
This time MF thought it wasn’t an accident and thought AD was doing it to be a jerk.
His roommate handled it.
He drove over to ADs house and wouldn’t you know it his oversized ILLEGAL tires were covered with dirt, so MF goes up to his door and rings the doorbell.
AD answers and MF politely say something along then lines of “listen, I think we got off on the wrong foot, I’m sorry but can you please not rut my yard anymore?”
To which AD says “Yeah whatever man” and slams the door in his face.
Not knowing what else he could do he just told me if he does it again we’ll call the cops.
The cops gave them some advice.
And as you can probably guess AD does it again.
We call the cops but they say they can’t prove it was him, suggested we get some cameras so if it happens again we can have proof and left.
So we go to the nearest hardware store and pick up some cameras.
Now being rather poor at the time we couldn’t really get high end quality cameras but they were cameras nonetheless. There was 8 of them and in half a day we got them installed and set up, all of them watching the street.
They finally had proof, kind of.
About two or three days later two ruts appear.
We check the cameras and sure enough it was ADs truck.
We call the cops and they take a look at the feed, but apparently the quality of the footage was too low and we didn’t see the driver or the plates, when in reality I’m pretty sure the cops were just lazy and didn’t want to deal with the paperwork.
Fed up and rather ticked off but not discouraged MF wanted revenge, and since he couldn’t do it legally he had to take action himself.
His roommate was pretty creative.
Original he thought about putting those spikes things cops use to stop car chases in our yard but he was scared that was illegal(which I’m pretty sure it is).
Instead he didn’t cut the grass for weeks letting it get super long(it was rutted a few times in this time span) but now he was ready to take action.
Him being a fairly crafty person put together some home made sprinklers. He made it so when the top portion that dispensed the water had pressure put on it, it would give reveling a sharp metal spike but until then wouldn’t have any sharp parts exposed to avoid any possible legal repercussions.
They looked like garbage and were basically a couple pieces of metal spot welded together. (I don’t even think they worked)
Finally!
Hidden by the grass he put them out and the “trap” was set.
He missed them the first time but the second time he hit them flattening two of his tires.

Finally after having our yard rutted probably 10 times we finally got our revenge.
But it wasn’t over yet.
He came to our door mad and probably ready to knock out MF.
He was demanding we pay for his tires.
We called the cops and they show up and were practically laughing in his face that he wanted us to pay. Instead he got slapped with a fine for destruction of private property and on top of that they charged him another fine because his tires were offset to far and the mudflats were covering them enough or something like that.
It didn’t stop him from being a jerk but at least our yard was never rutted after that.
That was a good idea for revenge! I’m glad the cops were on their side.

That ended well for these roommates! The neighbor should’ve left them alone.
I’m glad the police gave them some advice, but it’s too bad the cameras weren’t high enough quality to be the evidence they needed. However, if the cameras had worked, they wouldn’t have come up with a plan that damaged the neighbor’s tires, so maybe it actually worked out better this way.
