An 18-Year-Old Woman Rejects A Coworker Because Of His Weight By Lying About Having A Boyfriend, But Then He Finds Her Instagram And Confronts Her About It

You can’t really control who you’re attracted to, but sometimes the way you handle rejection can come back around to bite you later.
One 18-year-old woman found herself in that situation after a coworker asked her out.
She wasn’t interested, so she told him she already had a boyfriend instead of giving him the real reason.
A few weeks later, though, she actually started seeing someone and began posting about him online.
That’s when the coworker found her Instagram and realized she hadn’t been completely honest with him.
Read on to see what happened next.
AITAH for rejecting a guy because of his weight?
Recently, a guy I (18F) rejected reached out to me on Instagram and was upset with me because of this situation, and now I’m starting to feel guilty for how I handled it.
About 1-2 months ago, one of my coworkers asked me out.
I told him kind of bluntly that I wasn’t interested and I was already in a relationship because I wanted to shut those feelings down. However, I wasn’t actually in a relationship, and the real reason was because he’s a larger man.
Lately, she’s been making life changes.
I recently lost about 20 lbs., hoping to lose 5-10 more eventually, but I’m really happy about how far I’ve come.
I know it will sound stuck up, but since losing weight, I’ve also found myself pursuing more fit-looking men and women.
Recently, I’ve even begun seeing a guy named John, and we really hit it off. We are both active on Instagram, so we occasionally post each other on our stories.
Then, she found out he knew John.
A little over a week ago, my coworker reached out to me on Instagram. He found my account through John. I had no idea they knew each other, let alone followed each other on Insta.
I never bothered to look through John’s account because he’s had it for a while and follows a few thousand people.
My coworker seemed chill at first, but then he confronted me about my relationship with John and told me he knew I rejected him because he was a bigger guy.
She tried to remain civil, but he was way out of line.
I tried to be polite, but he was ranting and trying to insult me and John, so I sent him a final message and then blocked him.
I didn’t deny his accusations, though, and I was rude during both interactions, so now I’m feeling bad. He’s a nice guy, and he never seemed that insecure about his weight before this.
I’m not really close with anyone at work, so I wouldn’t know who to ask about it. My friends think I was justified, but I know they tend to be biased in good faith.
AITA?
Wow. Feelings hurt much? Even still. That’s no way to act.
Let’s see what the people over at Reddit had to say about what happened here.
That’s a good point.

This person thinks she did the right thing.

According to this person, she can deny anyone for any reason.

Here’s someone explaining why he’s not such a nice guy.

She did nothing wrong by turning him down.
The only thing she probably could’ve handled better was how she lied instead of just saying she wasn’t interested.
But even then, she didn’t owe him some long explanation.
Next time, a simple “no thanks” will suffice.
