Living below someone with zero volume control is its own special kind of exhausting.

One tenant spent over a year putting up with constant stomping, screaming, and furniture dragging from her upstairs neighbor, giving the family plenty of time to “settle in” before finally speaking up.

But when every attempt at a calm conversation got met with silence, ignored knocks, and neighbors pretending they couldn’t hear a word., banging on the ceiling became the last resort.

So when her neighbor’s kids jumping even louder in response, she realized the situation had officially gone from bad to worse.

Nightmare neighbor

I have had this upstairs neighbor for a year or two and I am not exaggerating when I say every single day it has been stomping, jumping, kids screaming and crying, furniture being dragged around, you name it.

At first, the tenants tried to give her the benefit of the doubt.

My husband and I let her make her noise for maybe a year with her kids, ya know, let them “settle in,” and after that we have both at different days and times of day gone up to talk to her like an adult about the noise, every time there was never any answer to the door.

Every time they seriously tried to approach her, she simply brushed them off.

We have run into her when outside and when we try to talk to her she just ignored us and pretended she couldn’t hear us.

The noise never let up and we have tried tapping the ceiling lightly and later absolutely BANGING on the ceiling and nothing changed, we have tried putting a speaker to our ceiling and nothing changed, we have called our office people and on-site courtesy officer and we were told they won’t do anything about it or have straight up gotten no answer.

Things have escalated quite a bit from there.

We have hit a point that we have actually BROKEN the broom we use to hit the ceiling, and when we hit the ceiling now her and her kids jump and bang WAY louder purposely in response.

I have been driven insane by this, I’m being woken up at random times, I can feel my walls and floor shake and hear my ceiling crack, I used to have stuff on my walls but they have fallen down from the force enough that I’ve just taken the crap down.

The tenants are starting to feel stuck in this awful situation.

We can’t afford to move literally anywhere, we are stuck and we can’t afford to buy crap to put on our ceiling to lessen the noise.

The only thing I can think of now is to just start annoying the leasing and management staff every day about it until they do something or have to at least acknowledge it.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease — or so they say.

This upstairs neighbor clearly banked on the downstairs tenant eventually giving up, and that’s pretty much the most unreasonable stance to take.

Repeatedly ignoring direct, polite requests over the course of a year goes way beyond just a simple misunderstanding.

Things got even worse when the management team refused to be bothered to intervene. Arguably they’re the only people who can actually do anything about this issue.

Persistence might be annoying, but so is living under a trampoline disguised as an apartment.
