When you have finally had enough of a terrible manager at work and you quit, the last thing you want to have to do is go back into that store.

What would you do if you went into the store to get your final paycheck and the manager who made you quit was the one who had to give it to you?

That is what happened to the guy in this story, but it was very satisfying when the manager begged him to come back to work. Fortunately, he already had another job lined up so he could turn him down flat and walk away.

I’m not even the department manager!

Well, I went to get my final paycheck today. Walked in and nosey ex-coworker comes up to me.

This guy seems like a jerk.

NECW: Oh, there he is!

Me: Oh, hey NECW.

NECW: I heard you quit the other day! Are you here to get your job back! Rumor is that BB said he was going to give you a day to beg for it back.

He clearly doesn’t want to talk to this guy.

Me: NOPE! Just getting my last check. Can you call a manager to get my check for me?

NECW: Oh, yeah, sure.

Me: Thanks.

It’s always the manager you don’t want to talk to.

I knew there was supposed to be two other managers on duty, but of course she pages BB, I’m sure that was no coincidence. I’m hoping he just brings me the check and I can go.

BB: Hey, I have your check in the office, come with me.

Just let it go.

** Yup, here we go, I went in there expecting he’d pull this stunt to get me in the office and have a talk with me. I told myself the whole way over, that I wouldn’t fall into this trap, but whatever, maybe he’ll just give me the check and it’ll be done…NOPE!**

BB: So, I know things got a little rough a few days ago. I know I said things I shouldn’t have. We really want you to stay, ya know. We can’t run department without you.

He just wants to get out of there.

Me: Oh, well, that’s unfortunate. So, is that my check?

BB: Uh, yeah.

Me: Oh, okay, thanks **grabbed my check and head for the door out of the office. Before I can, BB rushes in front of the door.

The manager wasn’t expecting this.

BB: Wait, you’re not even going to maybe reconsider? I mean, we really want you to come back.

Me: I already found a new job.

He is never coming back.

BB: What?! How did you get a new job so fast? I mean, we can work something out, just give us another chance, I promise we can make things better.

Me: Yeah, that’s a nice offer, but no. I’ve really got to go. So, if you’ll excuse me.

I walked around him and left. I hope I never see him again.

This must have been so satisfying. While there are situations where you have to keep working a job you hate, it is much better to be able to walk away.

He must have been happy that he had a new job lined up, so he didn’t have to take this one back. I’d like to hope that the manager learned a lesson, but I really doubt it.

In reality, he will likely just badmouth this employee to others to make it seem like it is a good thing that he is gone.
