I (29F) have lent my mother some money on a couple of occasions over the last couple of years.

Not much, though, just enough to help her out in case she lacked money for rent or bills.

I did not ask too many questions, as my mom is my mom.

Three months ago, my mother called me crying and begging for 1500 dollars to fix her car.

Which broke down and would not let her go to work.

This woman took out some money from her emergency funds to loan it to her mom.

I could not give her that amount of money, as I did not have that much saved up.

But I took the money from the emergency fund which I built up over the last year.

She promised to repay a little every month. She has returned none of it so far.

She noticed that there was a new car parked in her brother’s driveway.

This past weekend, I was at my brother’s place and saw a new car parked in the driveway.

This was something I had never seen before.

I asked him about it, and he casually informed me that mom had bought it for him out of the blue a few months ago.

Since his previous car had packed up.

And just then, I remembered the time she had requested a “loan” from me.

She confronted her mom about buying her brother a new car.

I confronted her about it.

She got into an emotional state and began accusing me of being petty.

Because I am earning more than her and should understand her problem.

She said I shouldn’t mind lending such a small sum to family.

And that we should help one another, no matter how little or much we earn.

She told her mom

Now, I have let her know that I will not be loaning her money anymore.

And that if she needs help, then she should come clean on the purpose.

She is making everyone in the family believe that I am upset with her because of the money she asked for in times of need.

She is also accusing me of abandoning her.
