Woman Feels Betrayed After Her Mom Keeps Being Friendly With The Neighbor Who Yells At Her And Calls Her Names

It’s always hard when someone you love keeps being friendly with a person who treated you badly.
For one woman, that’s exactly how she feels about her mom and the neighbor next door.
She had barely ever spoken to the woman before one day when the neighbor suddenly started yelling at her and calling her names.
The woman didn’t argue back and just went inside because she knew it would only make things worse.
But even after hearing what happened, her mom still treats the neighbor as if nothing ever happened.
Keep reading for all the details.
Am I wrong for feeling like its betrayal on my mom’s end?
We live in an apartment, and we have a next-door neighbor who moved in 2-3 years ago. I’ve never spoken to or interacted with her. I mostly keep to myself.
My mom likes to be real sweet to her, holding her Amazon packages and being overly nice, saying, “Neighbors are supposed to watch each other’s backs.”
Anyways, 2 months ago, I was getting home and crossed paths with this neighbor. Again, no interaction with her before other than seeing her around.
Suddenly, the woman started yelling at her.
To enter the building, you have to open 2 gate doors. She happens to open them, and I say thank you even though she didn’t open them. She let them slam, but in the spirit of being cordial, I just said thank you.
She didn’t respond back, and I could already sense attitude from her. We ride the elevator in silence, and when we get to our doors, I say, “Excuse me,” in a normal tone so I can get to my door.
This woman snaps, starts yelling at me, calling me an animal. All around, she berates me like a child, and I was humiliated.
Knowing her mother, she decided to just stay quiet.
I said nothing and went about my way because I know my mom. She’ll shift the blame on me and say, “Why did you answer back? You should’ve just ignored her vs. making it a bigger deal,” and that would’ve created another fight at home.
Thing is, my mom still desires to continue getting along with the neighbor as if nothing has happened. Still being overly nice to her, greeting her with a huge smile, and holding her stupid packages.
Am I wrong for feeling upset by this and like this is a betrayal?
Now, her feelings are hurt.
I understand wanting to keep the peace, but this woman basically verbally assaulted me, and my mom being so nice to her feels like the message my mom is saying is, “It’s ok you screamed at my child.”
I am her child who has been there for her selflessly when she’s needed me and, yes, have even ended relationships with family members who spoke against her, and now she prefers to side with the neighbor over me because her reputation in the building is more important.
Is there something I am not seeing, or am I completely wrong here?
Eek! It’s easy to see why this upsets her. Maybe the mom isn’t so innocent in the whole thing.
Let’s check out what the readers over at Reddit think about what happened.
This would work if it’s possible.

That info would be good to know.

Yeah. Her mom sounds terrible.

That’s so sad to hear.

It makes sense she feels betrayed by this.
There’s a big difference between keeping the peace and going out of your way to be friendly with someone who treated your daughter like that.
Of course, her mother shouldn’t go out of her way to be rude either, but acting as if nothing happened is crazy.
But who knows? Maybe the neighbor acted like that because of something the mother had told her. Ultimately, it may be time to reassess her life and find a new place to live.
