Imagine going to work day after day and doing a good job. What would you do if you suddenly realized every single one of your coworkers was getting trained on a new work task, but you weren’t? Would you be worried or think nothing of it?

In this story, one employee is in this situation, and he’s starting to feel worried. He’s not sure if he’s making a big deal out of nothing or if he should start job hunting.

Let’s read the whole story to decide.

AIO: manager is shutting me out??

I’ve been at my current job for the past 7 years.

Slowly worked my way up the ladder, kept the good faith and earned some salary increases, always kept my head down and did my job and stayed miles away from any workplace bs.

How it works at my job is everyone has their specific work flow, and everyone has a backup in case somebody is out.

Allegedly, I am my manager’s backup.

This is odd.

As of late I started noticing that everyone was being trained on new work duties…..except for me.

We recently implemented a few new procedures at work, and for the better part of 6 months, the new procedures were essentially kept a secret from all the other employees by the manager.

Then little by little everyone was trained on different aspects…except for me.

The interesting part is everyone is nearing retirement age, so training them on new tasks when they literally have 9 toes out the door makes no sense, and I’m literally the only one under 40….but I decided to keep my mouth shut and “mind my business.”

He’s wondering if he’s going to lose his job.

I’ve now gotten to the point where I absolutely loathe going into work.

It makes no sense to me to get up and get dressed M-F jut to basically sit on my butt.

I recently reached my breaking point upon hearing one of my coworkers called in to start learning a new job function while I am still sitting around doing nothing, so I’ve been contemplating using my accrued time here and there especially because the weather is getting better.

In my gut I see the writing on the wall, but i wanted to get some outside opinions. How would you all decipher this current situation at my job, and what would you do going forward?

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to start job hunting and use that accrued time off for interviews. Or, he could ask his manager why he isn’t being trained on any new tasks.

Let’s see what Reddit recommends.

This person suggests asking the manager.

Here’s another suggestion to ask the manager.

But this person would handle it differently.

And this person wonders if there’s more to the story.

It’s possible that there’s something that OP didn’t share, but it could be as simple as he didn’t ask for training and everyone else did.

He needs to decide if he wants to keep working at this company. If he does, he should tell his manager he wants training too. If not, he should start job hunting.
