Writing a letter to someone who used to be a part of your life shouldn’t be that hard.

In this story, a woman received a message from her ex six months after he suddenly ended their relationship.

He reached out after hearing about her dog, who meant a great deal to her.

But she quickly realized the message appeared to have been generated by AI.

Yikes! Is it really hard to send a personal note to an ex? Read the full story below to find out more.

AITA for calling my ex a jerk for using AI to write a sympathy note about my dog?

For context, he dumped me after a few years together.

It was, I thought, the most genuine connection with a human being I had ever shared.

Then one day, he literally turned on a dime and broke up with me.

No reason given, really, which I know is 100% acceptable, but my heart was/is eviscerated.

This woman immediately noticed that her ex’s letter was generated with an AI tool.

It’s been about 6 months, and this is the first time I’ve heard from him.

Here’s an exact copy/paste email:

I heard about [dog’s name].

I know how much she means to you, and I’m thinking of you both.

The note was [so obviously] generated by AI.

She thought it was both funny and unacceptable.

I was way-too-easily able to reverse-engineer the prompt.

I find it laughable and mildly inhumane.

I know the “thought” was there.

And maybe I should have realized that what counts?

If you’re going to sympathize, at least write a letter that comes from the heart, right?

I understand why OP felt upset after reading a note from her ex that’s obviously written using an AI tool.

This has made the gesture feel less personal to her.

Don’t you find it annoying, too? Let’s read the responses of other people to this story.

This person has a valid question.

Sometimes, heartfelt messages need a little more heart… and a lot less AI prompts.
