AITA when I told my cousin and brothers what my aunt told me?
Hi I(F17) recently had a talk with by older brothers (22 and 21, Let’s call them J and D) as well as my older cousin (F26, Let’s call her M).
She explains how things are between them…
But for a bit of background, 4 years ago my mom died (this is crucial, stay with me), and all that was left was me, my younger brother(11) and my father.
A few months after my dad starts dating this girl, I was only 12 then so I was a bit of an angsty teen who couldn’t cope and such and things got really bad where my dad and I’s relationship just wasn’t the same as before.
Fast forward two years later, I run away. And cut ties with my family for 1 year.
This is where it gets bad…
Just recently I’ve been in contact with my younger brother and last month moved back in with my family in hopes of repairing the damage. Cue in my older Stepbrothers.
We’re all old enough that we can talk about what happened without much fuss so everything’s been open and well.
I’ve recently taken up jogging-walking as a form of pastime and a way to cope with my emotions. A few days ago my stepmom asked her youngest sister (around early 30’s) to accompany me one morning.
Aunt wakes me up and we go, but we actually don’t. We ride a tricycle( I’m from the Philippines) to our supposed “destination” take pictures and leave.
UH OH…
As we were walking to the transportation terminal she tells me stuff about my stepmom.
How my stepmoms “jealous” of me, how my stepmom doesn’t follow my younger brothers doctors instructions (he has ADHD), how even though my stepmom was wrong she expects people to view her right, and also about how I should refrain from joining D and M and.
And just a bunch of awful stuff, views of my stepmom I was trying to overcome because as I said, I wanted to repair the damage done.
So a few days after, I went jogging with my older cousin, and I opened what my aunt told me (she was also part of the talk which is why I wanted to tell her also), and later that night we told my older brothers.
She was not expecting that…
The talk was ok, there were things I jumped through as it’s been a few days but I know all I said and the main points I made, because I was thinking about it for days, how could I forget, right?
Apparently this cousin I told, relayed what I said to my stepmom, and she then confronted my aunt. Last night my aunt messaged me about how much of a liar I was and how she was nice to me and I betrayed her.
D has also asked me if what I really said was true or just whatever I could say.
That’s INSANE!
My parents (dad and stepmom) has stopped talking to me since yesterday afternoon, and all I can think about is how much I regret even saying anything to my cousin and brothers.
I spent the last night just crying because this was what I was working myself against of, for this not to happen.
So, am I the AH for saying the bad stuff my aunt told me about my stepmom to her sons and niece?
YIKES! That’s a tricky situation!
