Even the best of roommates can be annoying at times, especially when they have habits or other quirks that really get on your nerves.

That was the case in this story, where she had a roommate who had the habit of talking to herself constantly whenever she was home, including late at night, which regularly woke her up.

On top of that, the roommate would let alarms ring for way too long and have friends over unannounced, both of which also impacted her sleep. She is annoyed by all of this, but doesn’t know what to do to get it to stop.

The simple answer is that she needs to have an honest conversation with her roommate. With any luck, that is all it will take. Check out the full details below and see what you think.

My roommate has no sense of how to share a room and its driving me nuts

Hi everyone, let me preface this by saying that its only been about 4 weeks since we got here, and its already really bad.

Let’s see where the conflict comes from.

And that this is a dorm room, two beds in one small room

I have this roommate. Shes gone for the whole day, always comes back at about 12 am.

That in itself isnt a problem, im a night owl and it really doesnt bother me whatsoever.

This would get really annoying.

What does bother me, is that every time she IS here, she is constantly talking to herself. Like constantly.

And its not a whisper, either. Its a full blown dialogue of everything shes doing. It drives me nuts because even if I wear headphones constantly to deal with this, I still hear her because she doesnt even attempt to whisper or mumble.

The roommate is very inconsiderate.

Another thing is that when she DOES come back at regular hours, its usually with a group of friends. Which is okay, I dont mind the company.

However, what is not okay is that she comes in, barges in without letting me know in advance, and once came in with a WHOLE GROUP while I was taking a nap. Yes they woke me up.

It is way past time to have a frank conversation with her.

The last thing is that she is always waking me up. Constantly. Because not only does she bring people over or talk to herself while I try and sleep, but at night she calls people (I did tell her to stop once and she did, thankfully), but not anymore, so its okay.

Or it would be if she didnt wake me up ar 6 AM CALLING PEOPLE!!!!!!. But, because she is always talking to herself, her dialogues wake me up.

Maybe she isn’t used to having a roommate.

Her alarms that she just lets ring wake me up. She isnt quiet at all when I’m trying to sleep and that wakes me up, too.

I have to mention I have ptsd and its really hard for me to stay asleep. Its hard for me to sleep at all.

Just confront her about it.

What do I even do about this. Like genuinely. She doesnt stop, and I dont know how to say anything because she’s sweet and all and I dont wanna be mean.

Thats my ramble though. Thank you for listening

Nobody wants to have conversations, but if she just keeps letting this go, it will only build more resentment. It seems like her roommate wants to be reasonable, so just have a polite but honest conversation.

If she doesn’t deal with this head-on, it will only escalate and get more annoying. Talking to her nicely now is much better than ignoring it to the point where there is a fight.

Of course, it will be awkward, but that is just part of life sometimes.
