Imagine being a teenager, and your dad suddenly starts dating. It seems pretty serious because the new woman has practically moved in since she’s there so much.

What would you do if you really didn’t like this relationship? Would you fake being happy for the sake of your dad, keep your distance, get angry, or try to explain how you feel to your dad?

In this story, one teen was in this situation and tried to keep her distance. Then she tried to open up to her dad, but let’s just say he didn’t take it very well at all!

Now, the dad is wondering if he messed up. Keep reading for all the details from the dad’s persepctive.

AITA for dating as a dad?

I, 39M lost my grandmother a couple months ago.

Recently I reconnected with a woman (33F) who lost her grandfather too.

We have started dating, she comes to my apartment everyday and sleeps over.

Her daughter is clearly upset that her dad is dating.

My daughter, 14F has been avoiding my girlfriend and I like the plague.

She stays in her room all day and refuses to leave for anything. She has not eaten or had water as far as I’m aware.

I believe this is her own fault and not my responsibility.

Yikes! He really overreacted when his daughter tried to open up to him.

Yesterday she explained to me that she disliked my girlfriend and did not want to be around her, but didn’t want to upset me.

I’ll admit, I lost my cool. I did raise my voice and I explained that I’m still young, and I have a right to date. I told her that I refuse to roll over and die and that if she dislikes it so much, she can go live with her mother.

She cried and then left to be with my sister.

Apparently, his daughter also helps him out at work.

Today I told her to edit something for me at work (my boss believes I make these edits, so I need them done in a timely manner. I compensate her by letting her go out and take my card).

She was incredibly snippy and told me that she needed a “screenshot of the file” because she “couldn’t open it properly“ .. Okay.

I feel that I’ve been incredibly fair with my daughter but I am at my wits end. She’s being childish, and I feel like I have a right to date whoever I’d like and bring them into my home.

But, I’m a logical person, so I want to see what reddit has to say. AITA?

Yikes. He definitely doesn’t win dad of the year. He sounds awful. I hope the teen does go live with her mom.

Let’s see how Reddit responded.

He seriously needs to be more concerned about his daughter.

It’s not the dating that’s the problem.

He doesn’t seem to care about his daughter or her feelings at all. He sounds really selfish.

Sure, he can date. That’s fine. But he needs to talk to his daughter about it and make sure she’s comfortable with the situation. It’s her home too.

I hope they see a therapist.
