Customer Didn’t Want To Wait In Line, So She Put Her Items On A Closed Checkout And Demanded It Be Opened

There’s a general attitude amongst some folk that working in a store or a fast food restaurant is easy, like the people who work there don’t really have to do much at all. Well, anyone with that attitude is highly ignorant because man do these folk work hard. Remember the lunchtime rush at McDonalds, or the Black Friday sales? Yeah, the people you’re looking down upon have to deal with that, and so much more, every day. And genuinely if you want to see the very worst of human behaviour? Try working a customer service job at these times, because the way that some grown adults act would genuinely shock you.

Case in point, the dollar store cashier in this story. It was the nearing the end of her shift, and she was about ready to close up her checkout – once she was done checking out the long line of customers, that is. In fact, one customer was so unimpressed by the length of her queue that she decided to pile her goods on a different checkout belt – even after being warned that that checkout was not in operation.

Read on to find out what happened next.

Ma’am, that register is closed. Standing there won’t make it work

This happened years ago, but the leaps of logic people make still amazes me.

During my stint at a store where everything costs $1, I was just getting ready to leave for the day. I was almost done ringing out the people in my line when a lady walked up with a full cart.

She took one look at my line, my co-worker’s line, and proceeded to the register behind me.

A register that had no till, the drawer was clearly open and empty, all lights were turned off, and a closed sign was up.

Let’s see how this cashier responded.

I noticed this lady was starting to put her stuff up on the belt and said, “Ma’am, that till is closed.” Still, the lady ignored me as she continued to pile her mountain of items on the belt.

I told her again, “Ma’am, there’s NO ONE to ring you out. That register is closed.”

The lady turned to glare at me and said, “It WILL be open.” She then went back to putting her stuff on the belt.

I finished up and called my manager, who came to grab me and we went into the office to count my till out.

Read on to find out how the manager responded to the weird situation.

My manager said to me, “Is that lady waiting for someone?” and I replied, “She wants to be rung out.”

My manager asked, “Then why is she at a closed till?” so I said, “I told her it was closed, but she won’t move.”

After a thought, my manager said, “She can wait there, I’m not opening another till just for her.”

So, we counted my till out which takes about ten minutes. Signed the proper paperwork and I headed to the back to grab my stuff.

Let’s see what happened next.

All of this took about roughly ten to fifteen minutes, and guess who’s still waiting up front standing at an empty register?

The lady gave me a hard glare as I walked out to go enjoy the rest of my day while she continued to wait for a cashier that was never going to show up.

The next time I came back in to work, apparently the lady got so fed up with waiting she left the store with all her stuff still on the belt.

It’s hilarious that the woman was so impatient that she wouldn’t just join the end of the queue, and the tactic she used instead wound up with her waiting a lot longer – and not even getting the goods she wanted to purchase.

And the fact that she stubbornly stayed at the closed register, even after being told that it wouldn’t be opened?

What kind of a person do you have to be to act like this?

Let’s see what folks on Reddit had to say about this.

This person was delighted with the outcome of the story.

While others praised the manager for their response.

Some people are genuinely so entitled that they think a store will drop everything just to serve them, even outside of their regular policies and practices. There were other checkouts open that she could have used but nope, she had determined that she wanted to be served at this particular till and, as a result, that was what it must be. Honestly, this woman must make the lives of the people she lives with miserable if she genuinely expects others to just bend to her demands like this. Good on the manager for refusing.

It’s a sweet, sweet image to think of her just standing there for over fifteen minutes, stubbornly refusing to move and adamant that eventually someone would give in to her demands and open the till. The fact that she was simply left waiting there, with all staff refusing to open up the till and serve her, unless she moved to the open checkout, is excellent practice in not giving an entitled person exactly what they want. Because sometimes you don’t get what you want, and you should realise this before you’re a grown woman.
