He Asked His Roommate To Stop Hogging The Bathroom With Daily Baths — His Roommate Refused, Leaving Him Scrambling Every Morning

Sharing a home with an old friend sounds like a sitcom until someone hogs the only bathroom for his luxurious morning ritual.

One man moved in with a buddy of more than ten years, expecting good times and an easy living situation.

The biggest problem was that the three housemates all shared a single bathroom, and his buddy insisted on soaking in the tub every morning for more than 45 minutes.

This completely upended the renter’s morning routine, often being forced to find a gas station or a patch of yard before work.

So when he asked his roommate to bathe outside the morning rush, he refused to budge.

You’ll want to keep reading for this one.

Roommate Only Takes Baths, Losing My Mind

My roommate only takes baths. Almost every day, he will wake up, fill the tub, and soak watching YouTube for 45 minutes.

Of course, this throws the rest of the household’s routine into disarray.

Totally unhinged behavior for a shared space. There are three of us in the house with one bathroom, which is really high traffic in the morning.

But this roommate never seems to have anywhere better to be.

He is a grad student with seemingly no schedule. Most days he has his bath, makes a Sunday-morning-style breakfast, goes to the couch to blast TV or phone scroll, eventually goes to campus, then resumes couch time until whatever time he goes to bed.

I shower at night and am usually able to get to the bathroom before he wakes up.

But when he doesn’t…

But maybe 2 days a week I get stuck waiting for the bathroom and need to pee in the yard or drive to a gas station to take a dump to get ready for work.

The third roommate is his partner and wakes up with him and uses the bathroom before his bath.

My job is either remote or traveling to customer sites, so waiting until I get to work isn’t an option.

This tenant has tried to reason with his roomie, but he never budges.

I have asked him to take his bath soak outside of high-traffic bathroom times, but he says that is how he gets clean and ready for the day. He apparently doesn’t shower.

This isn’t something he thought he would have to worry about in this stage of life.

We are in our 30s, and I can’t believe I needed to have this conversation.

I am a professional, established in my career, and don’t need a roommate. I was looking for a new place after a breakup, and he was also looking for a place with his partner.

Now he’s concerned the drama will ruin the friendship.

We have been friends for over a decade, and I haven’t had roommates in years. I thought it would be fun to live with a buddy again.

AITA?

Sounds like this guy needs to get a place of his own as soon as possible.

What did Reddit think?

Surely long-established friends should be able to communicate better than this.

This house really needs more order.

This user agrees a set schedule is the right first step.

This redditor pokes some holes in this tenant’s logic.

This roommate treats the only bathroom like his personal spa, and he’s been getting away with it because nobody wanted to be the first to say something.

Plenty of people bathe daily, and plenty of them do it at 9 p.m. or 2 p.m. when nobody’s racing out the door.

Being roomies with someone means compromising, even on your favorite routines.
