Neighborhood trust can be fragile, especially when misunderstandings spread faster than the truth.
One resident tried to do a good deed by safeguarding a lost tackle box, only to be accused of theft days later.
You’ll want to read on for this one.
AITA Found tackle box and returns it to be called a thief
I live in a neighborhood where we have several common areas, and one has a boat ramp.
Unfortunately, we deal with a lot of trespassing, so things have gone missing from time to time.
So when they noticed something out of the ordinary, they did what they thought a good neighbor should do.
On Labor Day, I was on my way home when I noticed a tackle box sitting at the boat ramp.
Not wanting a trespasser to come along and take it if it belonged to a resident, I turned around in my driveway, picked it up, and looked around for anyone in the area.
After seeing no one, I immediately posted about it on the neighborhood page.
But this act was not met with gratitude by the owners of the tackle box.
A few days later, the owners posted in the Facebook group saying I had stolen from their disabled nephew.
I even put a few extra of my own baits in the tackle box once I knew where to return it, yet they’ve still been nasty to me.
AITA?
It’s a real shame when doing the right thing comes back to bite you.
What did Reddit think?
Whatever happened to a sense of community between neighbors?

This kind neighbor shouldn’t just let their good name be dragged through the mud.

Maybe next time it’s not even worth trying to help out.

No matter how you slice it, these neighbors are no good.

In the end, this person’s good deed was met with suspicion instead of the gratitude it deserved.
It’s things like this that make a neighborhood feel a little less neighborly.
