First impressions don’t always hold up over time. This neighborly relationship started friendly enough, but slowly wore down into something much colder.

One woman moved into her apartment last September, greeted early on by an eccentric neighbor eager to share opinions about the previous tenants and landlord.

But that early enthusiasm didn’t last. Months later, the two barely speak at all.

The tension came to a head when the neighbor opened her own door and snapped a rude remark at her instead of being kind. Now the renter is starting to feel out of place in her own home.

My Neighbour Is Strange

When I first moved into my flat in September last year, I met my neighbour next door.

She was pleasant to start with, told me what the previous occupants were like, and it was evident that she didn’t get on with the female landlord and previous occupants.

My neighbour never referred to them by name, it was always she, her, them, but she knew the names.

But soon, their relationship changed.

To cut a long story short, I am no longer getting on with my neighbour. We don’t talk to each other anymore.

Last week I was standing outside her front door talking to my dad when she opened it and said, “Oi, move out of the way.”

I was going to anyway, but there are nice ways of asking with manners.

She begins to really dislike this woman.

My neighbour is one strange person. Along with having no manners at all, she is bad tempered, bitter, cantankerous, narrow minded, ignorant, and very rude.

I am of the belief in karma, what goes around, comes around.

It’s a shame that we all can’t get on in this world with only one life to live.

It’s really a pity it all had to end this way.

Choosing “oi, move out of the way” is certainly a choice, and most reasonable people would say it wasn’t a good one.

When you really look back, the early warning signs were there from the start. Refusing to ever use previous neighbors’ actual names, sticking instead to vague pronouns loaded with judgment. That’s not really how a well-adjusted person behaves.

A simple “excuse me” costs nothing.
