A Man Asked His Fiancée to Hold a Steady Ladder While He Changed a Lightbulb—Then She Let Go and Walked Away, Sending Him Crashing to the Ground

Accidents happen when a simple task goes wrong.

This man was trying to fix the light bulb in the kitchen. He asked his fiancée to hold the ladder while he climbed it, but she let go too quickly, so he fell and got injured. Things escalated when she reacted differently instead of apologizing.

This is one of those relationship problems where the reaction after an incident can be just as important as what happened in the first place. Read the full story below.

AITA for getting mad at my fiancé for not holding the ladder when I asked her too.

We have tall ceilings in our kitchen. Two lights have burned out.

I went outside, got the ladder, and set it up on top of our center island in the kitchen so I can get up and reach said lights.

I asked my fiancee to firmly hold the ladder as it’s probably going to slide on the granite countertop.

Granted this isn’t the best/safest method, but it’s what we have, and it’s not the first time.

This man fell off the ladder and hurt his foot badly.

I climbed up the ladder, got one bulb out, and started to climb down.

She let go of the ladder (I have no idea why she did), allowing it to slide, so I started to fall.

I caught myself but had to jump and hit my foot on the ladder steps on the way down, causing it to slice open.

When I landed and saw the blood coming out of my foot (no shoes allowed in house per fiancé) and in pain, I said, “Why couldn’t you just hold the friggin’ ladder?”

He got upset at her fiancee for having an attitude instead of apologizing.

She then became upset with me and said there was no bad intentions, and that I shouldn’t be mad.

She did help me clean the cut on the bottom of my foot (borderline need stitches, but that’s not the point).

She has an attitude with me for getting mad at her.

Am I just supposed to be fine that she isn’t taking any accountability for not holding the ladder because there was no “bad intentions”?

Ouch! Accidents can happen anytime, yes, but they can easily be avoided, too. OP clearly instructed his fiancée to hold the ladder, but she quickly let go, which is why it led to an accident. She may not have meant to hurt him, but his frustration after being injured is understandable.

And lastly, this one blames both of them.

A small accident can turn into a much bigger argument.
