Her Neighbors Get Furious When She Parks In Front Of Their House, But It’s Free Public Street Parking

Have you ever had a neighbor who hated it when someone parks in front of their house? I find this so odd. Doesn’t everyone know that street parking is first come first serve?
In this story, one homeowner is confused about why her neighbors are so upset when she parks in front of their house. They seem to act like she’s doing something wrong even though it’s public parking.
Now, she’s really second guessing herself.
Let’s read all about it.
AITA for my parking habits?
I live in the inner suburbs of a midsize city and own one sedan which I park on the street, like most of my neighbors.
The street is also narrow enough that parking is only legal on the opposite side of the street from my house.
The parking is free with no permits required, and my assumption was that due to this, it would be first-come, first-serve.
I’ve lived in this neighborhood (on a different street) for going on a decade and that has always seemed to have been the case, even if it sucks sometimes.
The neighbors are pretty possessive of the street parking in front of their house.
Lately though, my across-the-street neighbors have become incensed that I park in front of their house when that space is available.
They have left mean notes and have yelled from their car windows when I’m out.
They leave their trash cans as placeholders.
They’ll come back sometimes to find my car there and I can hear them screaming expletives about me and my car and my lazy butt.
She’s wondering if she’s really doing anything wrong.
I don’t think I’m in the wrong here, but maybe I have just missed some unwritten parking etiquette…
Any ideas?
Why I might be in the wrong: I work from home so sometimes my car will remain in one place for a day or two.
I also prefer this spot over others because it is the closest to my own house
The neighbors are clearly the problem here, not OP.
Let’s see if Reddit agrees.

It would be great revenge to find out that blocking the street with trash bins is illegal and get the neighbor fined.
If she can park in front of another neighbor’s house to avoid the drama, that might be the easiest way of handling it, but the neighbors are clearly wrong.
