Her Jealous Friend Got Upset When She Told Him She Was Moving In With Another Friend Because The Rent Was Cheaper. Now She’s Not Sure How To Make It Up To Her Friend.

If you had to choose between being with your friend and making a wiser financial choice, what would you pick?
Exactly! This kid broke into a fight with her friend because she chose a financially better living situation instead of living with him during college.
Find out how things got worse.
AITA for trying to move from a dorm to an apartment in the middle of the year?
For some quick and necessary background, I (18F) am a university student at the end of my freshman year.
Currently I live in a suite style dorm (Kinda like an apartment but 2 bedrooms, 2 people in each and no kitchen just like a kitchenette with a microwave and sink.)
Next year I will be in a dorm of the same style again at a newer building. I am supposed to live next year with my best friend at Uni, who we will call J (19M).
This is where the trouble begins…
The issue comes up when the other day I was hanging out with one of my close upperclassmen friends, B (20M), I was asking him about his house (4 bedroom home) because Me, J, and two other friends want to live there our junior year after B graduates.
He said yes but then told me that one of his roommates is actually about to graduate and that next year after our first semester the room will be open and I could move into it if I would like.
The rent is very low, only bout $650 a month (per person in the home) and it is a very nice house.
Right now for my college housing I pay almost $2k a month and next year since I’m in a brand new dorm building I have been told the price will be higher.
I have been going through a lot of stress this year as my financial aid from the military (GI Bill and BHA payments) has barely been cutting it and my parents don’t make a shit ton of money.
She was fancying her friend’s offer…
So, this offer from B was very appealing to me.
I mentioned the hypothetical to J, because I don’t even know if it can happen because of some school rules about housing and the fact we have housing confirmed for next year already, but when I mentioned it he said if I did that he would be mad at me for “leaving him with our other 2 roommates” (one of which he currently lives with and is friends with) he then went behind my back to my current roommate (who he is friends with and I am very close to) to tell her he would be mad.
I feel like considering how much cheaper it is and how much stress it would take off me he shouldn’t be angry?
UH OH…
I get being bummed I won’t be living with him all sophomore year but I will for the first part of the year and then literally all of junior and senior year when he moves into the same house…the house I AM THE REASON WE ARE GETTING.
Plus he could come visit and stay at the house (chill asf roommates) and we could use the kitchen I would have to cook real food and be done with all the dining hall slop.
But he would get a new random roommate assigned to him (unless he can find someone he knows to move in) so I get why he may be annoyed or concerned about that.
But am I the AH for wanting to move out after winter break because of the cheaper price, even though it would be leaving my friend.
OUCH! That sounds like a tricky situation.
Why would his friend not be accommodating towards his financial needs?
