As a young adult, parties act as a beacon of the promise of freedom, danger, and becoming someone cool. Then you get there, and it’s rarely the Project X rager everyone was whispering about all week.

How would you handle making a fool of yourself at a friend’s gathering? One girl recently shared a cringey example of this with Reddit. Here’s what she said.

AITA for giving my friend a reality check

One of my sober friends offered to host an after party where she initially promised everyone who was invited that drinks would be provided.

A couple days leading up to the event, she switched it up to completely sober, but because me and my best friend were in her inner circle she said we could drink.

This is already off to a messy start.

Me and my best friend drank at the event and our intoxication carried on to the after party that my sober friend hosted.

Because the party was dry, everyone left and it was just me, my best friend, and the three others in the inner circle who were sober at the time.

The party was extremely lame and frankly embarrassing for all of us associated.

Well, she doesn’t exactly sound like a guest of honor.

This embarrassment led to increased tension and discussion broke out.

Friend X started it extremely upset and said that me and my best friend needed to stop using her boyfriend as our dealer.

Naturally, we reacted in a way of self defense, since he was our dealer before they even knew each other and we were intoxicated so it made us more angry than usual.

There are so many layers to this situation.

This led to her getting super dramatic and creating a situation way bigger than what it was originally.

Me and my best friend got defensive and pointed out how she recently had been treating us really bad and calling her out for her selfishness.

She was ditching us to hang out with her boyfriend and the guy who cheated on me.

How does this have anything to do with the party?

When we confronted her she made it seem like she wasn’t doing any of this, and that she hated the guy who cheated on me- yet she hangs out with him all the time.

She found a way to make it seem like we were “misunderstanding” her and that we created an “unsafe” environment.

Now she says we were cruel for saying that.

Nobody in this situation reads as particularly pleasant.

Of course since we were intoxicated we were blunt, but we were sitting across the room from her and we never shouted, yelled, or got near her face at all.

Me and my best friend are both peacekeepers so we decided to swallow our pride and apologize to her.

But instead she is saying we are cruel and is telling our friends that we are these evil people who are alcoholics and what we did was unforgivable. AITA?

Sounds like all of these people need to go touch some grass for a bit. Let’s see what the verdict was from the Reddit jury.

The comments were immediately pretty irritated.
