An Unleashed Dog Ran Through Her Yard During School Drop-Off — She Warned The Careless Neighbor To Get It Under Control

Nothing tests neighborhood patience quite like watching someone else’s dog treat your yard like its personal playground.

One homeowner had grown increasingly frustrated with a neighbor’s large breed dog that regularly wandered off-leash near her home, especially during the exact hours kids were walking to the school right across the street.

Her frustration boiled over when she caught the same dog sprinting loose through her own yard shortly after passing it, off-leash, on her walk back home from school drop-off.

She finally confronted the neighbor on the spot, warning him that owning a dog that size meant actually being able to control it, only to be met with excuses about a squirrel chase and an accidental leash drop.

Read on — Redditors had some pretty strong opinions on this one.

Neighbour loses control of dog- am I wrong for calling them out?

Neighbour in question lives down the street and has a large breed dog.

This dog is fairly misbehaved on several fronts.

They only walk this dog about 10 houses down to where our house is, and let it go to the bathroom and kick up everyone’s lawn on the way.

This dog will also bark and lunge at cars/people randomly. They live right across from a school, which is crazy because they love walking this dog right at school time.

The issue only continued.

This morning we had to walk by the dog on our path to school while it was pooping and tearing up grass on our neighbour’s lawn.

I just happened to turn around when I was crossing the street and could see the dog running around my yard!

That’s when the homeowner finally decided to confront the neighbors.

I dropped my kid off, and while walking back I crossed their path to let them know they shouldn’t have a large dog if they can’t keep control of it.

The dog owner got super defensive and said it was just chasing a squirrel and they dropped the leash by accident.

But this homeowner wasn’t buying it.

All I could think of was, what if the dog decided to chase a kid or a car and put people in danger? Was I wrong for calling them out?

Yikes…

What did Reddit have to say?

Owners are responsible for their pets. Full stop.

Maybe it’s time to get animal control involved.

Polite but firm is the best response.

The whole “squirrel made me drop the leash” excuse doesn’t hold up when the dog already has a track record of lunging at cars and people.

This wasn’t a one-time accident; it was a pattern finally catching up with someone who never took it seriously in the first place.

Getting defensive instead of apologetic tells you exactly how much thought went into anyone else’s safety.

A leash isn’t optional gear; it’s the bare minimum for living near kids and traffic.
