Thin walls and opposite sleep schedules can make living in close quarters with your neighbors really difficult, especially when you share a wall.

In this story, one young woman is really annoyed with the woman in the room next to her. She keeps waking up because of noise coming from her neighbor’s room.

When she tried to talk to her neighbor about it, it definitely didn’t go well.

Now, she’s wondering if she’s actually the problem.

Keep reading for all the details.

AITA for making a remark to loud neighbour at 9 am and complaining to landlord afterwards

I (20F) live in a dormitory for a total of 10 people (it’s just, like, a very big private house, but divided by rooms)

Recently i got a neighbour next door (mid40ish? F). She lived in another room before, but moved to this one cuz idk it’s better and got empty. She’s the only next door neighbour that I’ve got

She works at night at the hospital, so she comes home in the morning, does her chores and sleeps throughout the day to wake up in the evening again.

They’re on completely different sleep schedules, which is a problem.

The last two days when I’ve been having weekends, she’s been coming home and speaking on her phone 8:00-9:00 in the morning so loud and annoying and like nonstop, it wouldn’t end and she would go from place to place.

It got me woken up and i couldn’t sleep.

Also i have troubles falling asleep so i lay myself quite late (6am that night).

She tried to talk to the neighbor about it.

The previous time i didn’t approach her cuz okay maybe it’s just this morning, plus it wasn’t THAT early (for me 8-9am is early tho).

On the next day when it happened again i was like hell no, i wanna ask her to be lil more quiet.

I asked her very calmly and with respect, but she just snapped at me saying things like “well you don’t work at night! from 7am i can legally do what i want and make as much noise as i want!! (legally yes, in our contract it’s stated that silent hours are from 10pm till 7am) “

OP might need to get some earplugs or noise canceling headphones. Her neighbor isn’t talking loudly in the middle of the night. It’s a reasonable time to be awake.

Let’s see if Reddit agrees.

This person doesn’t think the neighbor is doing anything wrong.

Another person thinks OP needs to find a way to deal with the noise.

Here’s another vote for headphones.

It’s fine to want to sleep in, but that doesn’t mean you can tell your neighbors to stop living their lives during the day. OP is being completely unreasonable. She can solve this problem herself with noise canceling headphones, earplugs or a white noise machine.

The world doesn’t stop because you want to sleep in.
