Woman Complained About A Busybody To The Wrong Neighbor, So She Was Suddenly Iced Out By The Whole Neighborhood

A friendly welcome to the neighborhood is great, but sometimes it can start crossing the line into surveillance.
One woman moved into a townhome complex where a neighbor greeted her with open arms, showed her around the laundry room, and then kept coming back with small, odd favors.
Things took a turn when she caught that same neighbor snooping in her kitchen window and later spotted her sifting through another neighbor’s trash cans.
She vented to a fellow neighbor about it, unaware the two were close friends, and quickly found herself getting the cold shoulder around the complex.
You’ll want to keep reading to find out what the landlord, and Reddit, had to say.
Neighbor keeps creeping/driving by my door
About a year ago, I moved into a townhome that is a part of 8 in total. 4 share an open backyard.
This neighbor was overly nice when I moved in. Let’s call her Cheryl.
Even from the start, Cheryl seemed very calculating.
She showed me how to use the laundry room. I now realize she must have been watching me out the window when she decided to follow me in and pretended to “check up” on the laundry room.
Then Cheryl took things to the next level.
Then Cheryl kept asking me for favors. Like, silly favors that she probably could have asked her sister who lives next door to her. Let’s call the sister Brenda.
For example, she asked if she could put her rake on my side of the yard while a tree was being taken down. She was fearful that the rake would get trampled by the tree, I guess? But if she was so worried about that, putting it near Brenda’s home would have made more sense.
Then Cheryl started getting a lot more brazen with her snooping.
Fast forward a few months. I was standing in my kitchen when I saw Cheryl walk past my window. I figured she was walking to my door, and I awaited a knock, but instead she turned back and walked up to my window and peeked in.
I was frozen. I wanted to yell at her, but I was afraid of the “new crazy neighbor” allegations. She then walked back to her place.
She tries to turn to another neighbor for support, but it only ends up making things worse.
I texted another neighbor, let’s call this neighbor Karen, about what had happened and warned her about Cheryl looking in my window. I told Karen I was going to get cameras. Big mistake.
Turns out Karen and Cheryl are good buddies. Now Karen turns her nose up at me when we see each other.
Now for the grand finale.
The last big weird incident was that I was driving up to my home and Cheryl was walking by (as she does). I saw her take a peek into my shared-wall neighbor’s trash cans. I think my car was quiet and Cheryl didn’t notice, but when she saw me watching her, she quickly scurried home.
Now she makes a point to walk and drive by my apartment when she has a pathway near her own apartment that is much easier for her to access.
This behavior is really starting to impact the homeowner.
It’s really weirding me out. And obviously there is nothing else to do. My rental company told me that they have had problems with her in the past. She is really needy and complains to them a lot.
All they said was that if she looks in my window again or looks through the trash, to call the police.
What a nightmare situation.

Now this homeowner has several neighbors against her.

At a certain point, there’s only so much people can really change.

Cheryl has clearly made the whole complex her personal viewing gallery, and every window and trash can is on the tour.
The laundry room welcome and the strange little favors look like recon in hindsight, a slow way of learning where her new neighbor lived and when she was home.
The other neighbor’s behavior soon proved that gossip travels faster than any package in this complex.
It must be hard to feel at home in a neighborhood like this.
