Woman’s Fiancé Wants Her To Move Into The House He Shared With His Ex-Wife, But She Isn’t Comfortable With Everything Staying The Same

Magnific
Would you be okay moving into a home with your partner knowing he used to live there with his ex?
One woman is not feeling comfortable about it, especially since all the furniture is still there… And in the same spots as before.
She tried talking to her fiancé about it, but he doesn’t seem to understand what this means for her. Or care.
The same furniture, colors, curtains, artwork, and even the ex-wife’s reading chair are still exactly where she left them.
Is she in the wrong for refusing to move into that house?
Check out the full story below.
AITAH for telling my fiancé I won’t move into the house his ex wife decorated?
I’m in a couple with my fiance (34M) and we are getting married next spring. He’s divorced, no kids and he is a great partner in real.
The only problem is his house.
Six years ago he purchased this home with his ex wife. They were assembling everything from the paint scheme to the kitchen floor tiles to the furniture.
They were divorced 2 years ago and she left, but nothing has changed in the house since then, literally.
All the curtains she selected, all the wall art she selected, even her old reading chair is still in the corner of the living room.
This bothers her, but he doesn’t get it.
When I walked in, I thought that we would do a touch of it again before the wedding. Not so crazy as to make it not feel like I’m living in somebody else’s old life, but make it feel like ours.
Theo was rather defensive when I mentioned it. He stated the house is fine as it is and that altering that will be wasteful because all the items are still in good shape.
I pressed a bit further and inquired about repainting the bedroom and replacing her chair.
He told me I was dramatic and that I ‘am trying to blot him out like it never happened’.
That hurt me, but I don’t want him to forget his wife, I just dont want to sleep in a room that she picked the colors for.
She’s still not happy with his response.
If he is not willing to make any changes at all, I don’t feel comfortable moving in there after the wedding and we’ll either have to compromise or find out a different place to go together.
He told me that I was insecure and that anybody would be happy to move into a house rather than create drama in a house that is paid off.
Now he isn’t speaking to me, and my sister says I’m being too dramatic as it’s just a house. My buddies believe I’ve got a very even one.
AITA?
I think him treating her concern like it’s silly is a red flag. What did Reddit think?

Yup.

Something to consider.

I agree.

Wanting to change at least a few things before moving into your fiancé’s former marital home is not outrageous.
And she isn’t even demanding that they live in another house or that he erase his past. She simply wants their home to feel like a place the two of them created together rather than a time capsule from his previous marriage.
His argument that everything is still perfectly usable also misses the emotional side of the issue.
He’s creating a problem instead of listening to her.
