Glaciologist and climate scientist, Dr. Peter Neff of the University of Rochester, shared this quirky little clip on Twitter, documenting the unexpected sound made when a chunk of ice is dropped down a 90m (295 ft) long borehole in Antarctica.

While this was just a fun experiment after Neff and his team had completed their research, the goal of their expedition was to study ancient ice (up to 800,000 years old) to track ways global warming is affecting the Earth. You can read more about their expedition and findings here and here.
