HOAs have a well-known reputation for overreacting about the smallest details.

One homeowner learned this firsthand when the HOA soon approached him about painting his already perfectly presentable mailbox.

But instead of arguing, he decided to oblige with a color you’d never find approved in any HOA bylaws: bright pink.

We all know how my HOA doesn’t like me very much.

They just sent me a letter saying to repaint my mailbox.

There was nothing inherently wrong with the mailbox.

I thought it looked just fine, considering the street and stop signs in the neighborhood were installed and painted around the same time mine was.

So he decided to fight back with a little malicious compliance.

So I refreshed the paint on the mailbox like they asked and took this moment to celebrate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I’ll paint it back black November 1.

But in the meantime, I am sure my HOA will have something to say.
