This 3D Printed Clock Writes the Time with a Marker

by twistedsifter

Plotclock is a clock that uses a marker to write the time on a small whiteboard. When the time changes, the clock erases the previous time and writes the current one.

The open-source design was made by joo, a user on Makerbot’s Thingiverse, the world’s largest online design community for discovering, making and sharing 3D printable things.

To make your own plotclock you will need:

– Laser cutter or 3D printer
– 1 Arduino uno single-board microcontroller
– 3 servos
– 1 dry wipe pen
– M3 nuts, bolts, thread tap

You can download all the instructions and 3D print files required to make your own plotclock here.

People around the world have already attempted to make their own version. You can find a small gallery here. Since plotclock is open-source, others have already begun ‘remixing’ and modifying the design. You can find a small gallery of ‘remixes’ here.
