Picture of the Day: Vintage Tour de France from the 1920s
VINTAGE TOUR DE FRANCE FROM THE 1920s
The image above is a cropped version of a popular poster/print that you may have seen before. It shows two riders smoking cigarettes during the Tour de France some time in the 1920s. The two riders smoking have been identified as Vervaeke and Geldhol although the Sifter cannot confirm this.
What can be confirmed is that this image is awesome for several reasons: they are riding single speed bikes (imagine riding the Tour de France on one gear, madness!), they have spare inner tubes slung over their shoulders, ze goggles look tres cool, and you get a real sense of camaraderie in this shot.
