Things change in quite a hurry when a person gets out of college and they have to adjust to the so-called “real world.”

Some people hit the ground running and love the adjustment.

And others…

Well, not so much.

And that can be a pretty rude wake-up call to some folks!

In today’s story, a recent graduate explained why things aren’t going so well at her first job in the corporate world.

Check out what she had to say about this.

Supervisor said she’s very concerned.

“I started my first 9-5 and it’s a big adjustment.

At university I was able to study at whatever time I wanted. I’m a massive night owl and that’s when I focus best.

Welcome to the real world!

I have a hard time concentrating from around 9-3 and it’s made my work pretty slow. I usually stay an hour extra trying to make up for it, but it’s still not enough.

I was a good student and got top grades at school but I fear I am completely unsuited for the structured corporate environment. It doesn’t help that my supervisor is kind of a micromanager.

She has an issue with EVERY email I send out. My team is not supportive and I don’t feel I can ask many questions despite not knowing how to do a lot.

This isn’t going well…

But anyways, my supervisor called me into her office today and said she’s very concerned and doesn’t know if I can manage the pace. She also grilled me for a pretty minor admin error I made. I was really frustrated afterwards.

I’ve struggled with mental health in the past year and it’s all getting a lot against me. I was already very anxious and often throw up in the mornings, this has just made it worse. I also have this awful existential angst that this is potentially my life now.

Student life was so much better in comparison.

What’s she supposed to do now…?

This is awful. My life is work. I can’t stand it but I need to make money.

It was so difficult to find a job and I don’t know what I would do if I got fired. By my CV already has some gaps and this would be so hard to explain.

I want to leave ASAP before they have the chance to fire ME.

I don’t know what this is.

It’s just a rant and I hope it made anyone else going through something similar feel less alone.”

Well, at least she’s figuring out early on what she DOESN’T like…

And that’s half the battle!

We have a feeling she’ll be just fine…

No job is worth it if it’s going to make you completely miserable.
