Plenty of people are quick to defend shady sales tactics until the tables turn.

What would you do if someone you trusted used a kid’s misunderstanding to turn a profit?

Would you speak up and risk an argument?

Or would you wait for the perfect moment to teach them a lesson of your own?

In the following story, one teen garage sale helper flips the script and makes a customer’s day in the process.

Here’s how it all played out.

The customer was so happy!

Recently, my mom and stepdad had a garage sale and I was asked to help out.

At one point, a kid asked me how much money he would have left if he bought a $0.50 item with a $5 bill.

I told him $4.50.

Later, the same kid asks how much for a crowbar.

My stepdad, being the opportunist he is, says $4.50.

The kid is happy, pays for the crowbar, and leaves.

I said that I thought my stepdad took advantage of the kid, but he said that it didn’t matter because the kid was happy.

My mom made us drop it.

He turned those words around the next day.

The next day, I was manning the sale while my mom and stepdad were at church.

A customer asked how much an item was, so using the color-coded stickers, I asked what color sticker was on the item.

He answered, so I told him that corresponds to $2.

He later brought me the item, and I saw there was another sticker in my stepdad’s writing saying $50.

The item (sheepskin seat cover) was clearly worth more than $2, but I sold it to him for $2.

He was so happy!

That’s all that matters, isn’t it?

Too funny!

He did say that the customer’s happiness was all that mattered.

Let’s see what the people over at Reddit think about it.

Good point.
